TU Delft Scholarship for Indian Students 2027: Eligibility, Deadlines & Costs

If you searched for the TU Delft scholarship and landed here expecting the Holland Scholarship, please hold on. That program was renamed the NL Scholarship in June 2023, and it does not appear on TU Delft’s own scholarships page for the 2026-2028 intake. Three scholarships do appear there, and only one is open to every faculty.

Counselor insight: Students often bookmark the Holland/NL Scholarship page from a different Dutch university and assume it applies at TU Delft too. Each participating institution runs its own NL Scholarship intake and deadline, so a page for Leiden or Utrecht tells you nothing about whether TU Delft is currently in the program. Confirm directly with TU Delft’s admissions office rather than an aggregator listing.

This is the scholarship worth building your application timeline around, since it is TU Delft’s own award and open to every faculty.

Counselor insight: Reference letters and your English test score must go in with your MSc application, not after. Students who plan to “apply first, arrange letters later” lose scholarship eligibility, even if the MSc application itself is submitted on time. No documents can be added once you submit.

If you are applying for a quantum or microelectronics-linked MSc, these two scholarships are worth checking before you assume Van Effen is your only option.

The table below shows the 2027-2029 intake, which means a September 2027 start. This period is the next cycle open to a student reading the course in 2026. If you are targeting a different intake year, shift every date forward or back by the same number of years.

Counselor insight: Do not wait for your MSc admission decision before applying for the scholarship. The scholarship deadline and the MSc application deadline are not always the same date, and whichever comes first governs you. TU Delft is explicit that candidates must not wait for an admission decision to submit a scholarship application.

If you are a final-year BTech student graduating in May 2027 and targeting September 2027 intake, your scholarship deadline is roughly 1 December 2026, which means your LORs and SOP need to be ready by October 2026, not December.

If you already have a Dutch bachelor’s degree or studied a semester at a Dutch university, you are not eligible for the van Effen scholarship regardless of your grades. Check the NL Scholarship or an external funding route instead.

If your target program is Quantum Information Science and Technology, Applied Physics, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or Embedded Systems, you should apply for both the Van Effen and QuTech scholarships in the same application cycle. They are not mutually exclusive at the application stage.

• Missed the 1 December deadline: Your scholarship application will not be reviewed, per TU Delft’s own policy, even if your MSc application window is still open. There is no late window for applications.
• No Van Effen, QuTech, or Microelectronics award, but you have admission: Check the NL Scholarship (formerly Holland Scholarship) status directly with TU Delft admissions, since it is not currently listed on TU Delft’s own scholarships page but is a live national program run through other Dutch universities.
• Considering an external scholarship or education loan instead: If using an external scholarship letter, it must reach TU Delft before 1 June with your student number. Otherwise, compare your education loan options for study abroad before committing to self-funding the first year.

1. The Justus & Louise van Effen Excellence Scholarship is TU Delft’s only cross-faculty scholarship right now, with 2 seats per faculty and a roughly 1 December deadline each year.
2. Non-EEA MSc tuition for 2026-27 runs Rs.24.5 lakh to Rs.28.2 lakh a year, before living costs, so budget for the full two years, not just year one.
3. Submit your scholarship application with your MSc application, not after, since reference letters and English scores cannot be added later and missing the deadline forfeits the scholarship entirely.
