Is it hard to work out how to register for OET from India?
OET, the Occupational English Test, is an English test for health professionals, and you book it yourself online for INR 39,300 (AUD 587). You don’t need an agent. If you’re worried about how to register for OET, the whole job is four tasks: an account, your ID, a test date, and the fee.
Two mistakes cause most of the stress: a name that doesn’t match your passport and a missed booking closing date. The booking closing date is the last day you can book a given test date. Our OET exam guide covers the test pattern and scores, so this page stays with booking.

You can sit OET on paper or on a computer at a venue, or as OET@Home, which is the version you take on your own computer at home. Your regulator is the official body that registers nurses or doctors in a country and decides which English proof it accepts. Ask it for the minimum results and accepted modes first.
A test administration is one set of OET test dates, and you may hold only one booking in each, or you will lose the full refund. The steps below show how to register for OET in the order the form asks.

What to keep ready before you register for OET
Keep five items ready, because the form asks for them in one sitting, and the INR 39,300 (AUD 587) fee is due at the end. Before you start on how to register for OET, gather these:
- A personal email: not a university or workplace one. If you're also applying to ECFMG, which is the US body that certifies foreign medical graduates, use the same email for both.
- A valid passport: it works for every mode, and you'll show the same ID on test day.
- A photo or ID image: paper needs a current photo that meets OET's rules; computer and OET@Home needs an image of your ID.
- Your regulator's rules: the scores and modes it accepts.
- The full fee: paid when you book, not later.
Still deciding between tests? A short OET vs IELTS comparison helps before you pay, and the IELTS registration process has its own steps if your regulator accepts IELTS.
OET only proves your English, so licensing exams are separate bookings: doctors heading to the UK take the PLAB exam, and those returning to practice in India plan the FMGE exam.

How to register for OET step by step
Step one of how to register for OET is selecting the Medicine profession version when you book, because you can't switch mode or profession later without cancelling.
- Medicine: doctors on the doctor route to the UK pick Medicine.
Then here is how to register for OET in seven steps:
- Open Book a test: start from the booking page on the OET website.
- Create your account: for paper tests, use myOET, which is OET's online profile for booking and managing a paper test. Computer and OET@Home use an OET account, which is the same kind of profile on the OET Global site.
- Accept the terms: read the Terms and Conditions, Privacy Policy, and Collection Notice, then click I Agree.
- Enter your ID details: add the ID you'll carry on test day, then upload your photo or ID image.
- Choose your test: profession, mode, country, venue, and date. Request special testing arrangements, which are adjustments for a disability or medical condition, here.
- Check every detail: you're responsible for them, and an error found on test day can delay results or stop you sitting.
- Pay and save: pay the full fee, subject to seat availability, and keep the invoice and confirmation email.
Each candidate creates their own account, even when a friend helps with how to register for OET.
My insight: Settle your regulator and mode before you open the form, because a booking can't be moved to another mode or profession. Fixing that later means cancelling, paying a fee and booking again.

Which OET test mode, venue, and date should you choose?
Paper bookings close 24 days before the test, while computer bookings close 7 days before, so your choice of mode sets your deadline. Each subtest is one of OET's four parts: Listening, Reading, Writing, and Speaking.
Read each row as one mode:
| Mode | Where you sit | Bookings close | Speaking | Results |
| OET on Paper | All four parts at one venue, same day | 24 days before | Face to face, private room | As little as 5 days in India |
| OET on Computer | Listening, Reading, Writing at a venue | 7 days before | Online from home, another day | As little as 48 hours |
| OET@Home | Your own computer at home | 7 days before | Live role-play, online | As little as 48 hours |
What this means for you: OET@Home has limits. It's offered where no venue is near you or with OET's approval for exceptional circumstances, and not every regulator accepts it. In India, plan on paper or on a computer at a venue, and check who recognizes OET in your mode.
The booking page lets you search dates by test type and country and shows each closing date. Do that search, which is step 5 of how to register for OET, only after you have checked with your regulator. Planning to practice medicine in the UK or Australia? Confirm the GMC or AHPRA accepts OET for your specialty first.

How much does it cost to register for OET, and how do you pay?
The OET fee is INR 39,300 (AUD 587) for every mode, paid in full when you book. To reschedule means to move your booking to a new date for a fee, and that move can't be reversed.
Here's what the test and each date change cost:
| Fee | When it applies | Amount |
| Test fee | Any mode, at booking | INR 39,300 (AUD 587) |
| Paper reschedule | Up to the closing date | INR 8,000 (AUD 120) |
| Paper reschedule | After the closing date | INR 13,400 (AUD 200) |
| Computer or OET@Home reschedule | Up to 7 days before | INR 8,000 (AUD 120) |
| Computer or OET@Home reschedule | Under 7 days before | INR 13,400 (AUD 200) |
| Speaking-only reschedule | Up to 7 days before | INR 2,000 (AUD 30) |
The fees are converted at 1 AUD = INR 66.93 as of October 2026 and will shift with the exchange rate, so check the latest rate before you pay.
What this means for you: an early change costs about a fifth of the test fee, far less than losing a seat. The fee is in Australian dollars, so check how your bank or a forex card handles foreign payments. Group bookings are the one twist on how to register for OET alone: an approved organization can pay for a group, but each candidate still creates an OET account.

How to match your name and ID so you can sit the test
The most common snag in OET registration is the ID: your booking ID must match your test-day ID, or you may not be allowed to sit.
- Passport for every mode: valid, with your full name, date of birth, photo, and expiry date.
- National ID: from the national government where you sit; computer and OET@Home need English lettering or a certified translated copy with the original.
- Driver's license never: not accepted for any mode.
- Paper edits: myOET won't let you edit your given name, family name, date of birth, or profile photo, so contact customer support.
- Computer and OET@Home edits: use the My Details tab, but changes affect your booking.
If something doesn't match on the day, a proctor decides. A proctor is the person who checks your ID and watches your test on screen for OET@Home. You may start but need an extra ID with your name, photo, and date of birth. You may lose a transfer or refund, and OET can withhold results until your ID is verified.
My insight: Before you pay, compare your passport and the form letter by letter, because your name, date of birth, and photo can't be edited in myOET once you've booked.

Do you need special testing arrangements?
Computer and OET@Home candidates must request special testing arrangements at least 18 business days before the test, at no extra fee. They're for a current disability, impairment, or medical condition, and approval isn't automatic.
- When: during booking; paper requests by the published closing date.
- Evidence: documents from a qualified medical practitioner.
- After a date change: resubmit your documents.
What happens after you book: confirmation and test-day documents
After you pay, OET emails an invoice and a confirmation with your test date and venue name. No email within 24 hours? Contact OET Support. Once you've finished how to register for OET, watch your inbox for these:
- Paper: the venue sends a timetable up to 48 hours before.
- Computer and OET@Home: a reminder comes 48 hours before Listening, Reading and Writing.
- Speaking: a reminder with your confirmation number and password comes no later than 24 hours before.
Your Prometric confirmation number is the code in your booking email that launches a computer or OET@Home test. Proof of residency is a document showing you're in the country you booked: a residency permit, valid visa, hotel confirmation, or signed rental agreement covering the test day.
Pack these for your mode:
| Mode | Bring on test day |
| OET on Paper | Valid ID, non-mechanical pens, 2B pencils, eraser, sharpener, clear stationery holder, clear water bottle |
| OET on Computer | Valid ID, Prometric confirmation number |
| OET@Home | Valid ID, Prometric confirmation number, proof of residency, clear water bottle |
For OET@Home, book in the country where you'll physically sit, and log on at least 15 minutes early.
How to reschedule or cancel your OET booking
Paper tests can be moved up to the day before through myOET, and computer and OET@Home tests up to two days before your first sub-test. Cancelling ends the whole booking, and neither change can be reversed.
Compare the rules before you change anything:
| Rule | OET on Paper | Computer and OET@Home |
| Last day to reschedule | Day before the test | Two days before the first part |
| Reschedule fee | INR 8,000 (AUD 120) to closing date; INR 13,400 (AUD 200) after | INR 8,000 (AUD 120) to 7 days before; INR 13,400 (AUD 200) after |
| Cancel the booking | Up to a week before: INR 8,000 (AUD 120) before closing, INR 13,400 (AUD 200) after | Allowed up to 48 hours before the test starts; a fee applies |
| Change mode or profession | Cancel and rebook | Cancel and rebook |
| Once the test starts | No changes | No changes once one part is taken |
What this clause means for you: the closing date is where the cost jumps. A few more rules:
- Speaking moves too: moving Listening, Reading, and Writing on a computer means moving Speaking.
- Speaking alone: INR 2,000 (AUD 30) up to 7 days before, once only.
- Another country or a discount code: computer bookings can't move country, and discount bookings can't be rescheduled, so cancel and rebook.
- After a part is done: no cancellation and no refund request.
Read these exit rules before you book. If a residency, PG seat, or job offer sets your timeline, pick a date that leaves room for another sitting.
My insight: Move your date before the booking closing date, because the fee rises from INR 8,000 to INR 13,400 after it, and a change can't be undone.

What if you miss your slot, enter the wrong name, or hit a payment problem?
Miss your OET test, and you get no refund unless there were extenuating circumstances; you have five business days to send OET Support evidence. Here's what to do:
- You miss the whole test: send evidence within five business days. Special consideration, which is OET's review of a serious problem, can be asked before the test or within two calendar days after. A decision comes within seven working days: a deferral or refund, never a changed result.
- You miss only Speaking on the computer: contact OET Support within 24 hours of the start time; a fee applies. Otherwise Speaking scores zero.
- Your name is wrong on the form: for paper, contact customer support before test day.
- No confirmation or a payment problem: check spam, then contact OET Support after 24 hours.
- The venue or date is full: try another one.
- You missed the closing date: paper closes earlier, so a computer date may still be open.
- OET cancels the test: if it's outside OET's control, rebook for free or take a full refund.
Who to contact: OET Support for bookings and ID, your regulator for scores and modes, and your counselor for the next sitting. A slip in how to register for OET is usually fixable within these windows.
My insight: Contact OET Support the same day something goes wrong, because the windows are short: 24 hours for a missed Speaking slot and five business days for a missed test.
This is general information, not legal or registration advice; check OET's Test Regulations and your regulator's page before you pay.
