The Government of France offers several scholarships. Apart from that, French Universities and Non-Government Scholarships are also available for Indian students. Underlined below are some of the scholarships offered: 

  • The Charpak Scholarship Program 

Candidates pursuing an undergraduate, Master’s or postgraduate can apply for this scholarship. Under this, one will be receiving a monthly stipend of 700 EUR and a tuition fee up to 5000 EUR. Furthermore, one will be eligible for a waiver of a student visa. 

  • La Femis 

Candidates interested in pursuing filmmaking can apply for this scholarship. The Ministry of Culture and Communication of the French Government funds it. Moreover, one will receive a monthly allowance of 910 EUR and a return trip to France. Medical insurance is also covered under this. However, to be considered eligible, candidates must have proficiency in the English language and should have completed their bachelor’s. In addition, they must have four years of work experience. 

  • The Fulbright Scholarship for Ecole Normale Superieure (ENS) de Rennes Awards

Candidates pursuing a Master’s can apply for this scholarship. Under this scholarship program, the tuition fee is waived. Along with that, it extends the facility to join summer school. However, interested individuals must have dual citizenship available to apply for this particular program. 

  • Franco Indian Education Trust 

This fund is a joint initiative of the French Embassy in India and Mr Prashant K Lahoti, Krishnakriti Foundation’s managing trusty. There are two primary scholarships: UGAM Legrand Scholarships and Amba-Dalmia Scholarship Program offered by this trust.Candidates for the former must be pursuing their Master’s in management, science and engineering, and their family income should be less than ten lakhs. Moreover, they will be offered a tuition fee waiver of up to 10,000 euros. On the other hand, the latter is applicable to Indian women studying music, theatre, sports, arts, sculpture, cinema, opera, ballet, painting, photography and culinary arts in France. Apart from this, one can avail of the following scholarships:

Eiffel ScholarshipCandidates pursuing a Master’s and PhD can apply. Masters students will receive a monthly allowance of €1,181, and PhD students will receive €1,400. In addition, health Insurance and one return trip fare will be covered
Ile-de-France Masters ScholarshipsCandidates pursuing Master’s in any discipline can apply. In addition, one will receive an amount of up to €10,500
The Emile-Boutmy ScholarshipCandidates aiming to pursue Masters and Undergraduate can apply. One will receive €7,300 at UG for tuition and €5,000 for living costs for 3 years. In Master’s, this is €10,000 for tuition and €6000 for living costs. Alternatively, one gets a lump sum amount of €19,000 for their entire UG or PG courses
UniversitĂ© de Lyon Masters ScholarshipsCandidates will be awarded €400 – €800, although this is applicable for those pursuing Master’s
Ampere Scholarships of ExcellenceCandidates pursuing Master’s Sciences, Arts, Human, and Social Sciences are eligible for this scholarship. €1,200 per month is the amount one is awarded for a year, which comes with a conditional renewal
HEC ScholarshipsIndividuals pursuing their Master’s degree are only eligible. Candidates will be receiving €6,000 – €24,000 per year

Eligibility Requirements for French Scholarships

Even though the scholarships to study in France will have separate and distinctive eligibility criteria, the following are some general parameters that one needs to fulfil –

  1. One must have academic transcripts, financial statements and a statement of purpose handy while applying.
  2. Furthermore, candidates must score a minimum of 70% in a relevant field. Alongside demonstrating proficiency in French, candidates must also have a stronghold over English. 
  3. However, one must be wary that to be eligible for courses such as management, science, information technology, and engineering, one needs to appear for exams such as GRE and GMAT.
  4. Finally, having two to three Letters of Recommendation is a must.
