What Is the DHA Exam for Pharmacist?
The DHA exam for pharmacist is a computer-based licensing test for pharmacy professionals who want to work in Dubai. It is not a university admission test. The DHA CBT assessment guideline says Prometric runs it as multiple-choice questions, and DHA posts only a Pass or Fail result on Sheryan. Your score is not shared. Three pharmacy titles have their own exam: pharmacist, pharmacy technician, and clinical pharmacist.
Counselor insight: Many students assume the exam is the hard part. For pharmacists, the harder gate is often experience. Check that first, because the exam fee is not refundable.

DHA Exam for Pharmacist Eligibility: Degree and Experience
Your title decides your eligibility. The DHA Unified PQR (April 2025) lists these baselines:
- Pharmacist: BSc in Pharmacy or Doctor of Pharmacy, plus two years of experience after qualification in a related field.
- Pharmacy Technician: diploma in pharmacy of at least two years, plus two years of experience after qualification.
- Clinical Pharmacist: a clinical pharmacy qualification plus two years of experience, with at least six months in a hospital.
The PQR adds a note that experience with pharmaceutical companies or sales representatives is not accepted. A required bachelor's degree must be at least three years full-time, and degrees earned through correspondence or distance learning are not counted. You also need a valid home-country licence or registration, and the academic transcript is submitted for credentialing.
A master's or PhD in your specialty can reduce the required experience by one year, but only where that degree is not mandatory for the title.
Counselor insight: Count only your qualifying months before you plan. Years in sales, marketing or pharmaceutical company roles do not count under the PQR note, and the PQR does not define 'related field' beyond that. Run the free Sheryan Self-Assessment Tool with your actual roles.

Source: DHA CBT assessment guideline (updated September 2026).
The guideline lists 14 coverage topics for Pharmacist: toxicology, medicinal chemistry, sterile and non-sterile compounding, pharmaceutics and biopharmaceutics, pharmacognosy and dietary supplements, pharmacy calculation and compounding, clinical pharmacogenomics, infection control, pharmacokinetics, pharmaceutical care and disease state management, medication safety, over-the-counter medication, pharmacy law and ethics, and clinical pharmacology and therapeutic decision making.
Several websites quote percentage weights for topics or promise a score breakdown. The guideline gives neither. DHA also reserves the right to change content, format or pass scores without updating the document, so recheck before you book.
Counselor insight: Open the page for your exact title. Pharmacist is 60%, Pharmacy Technician is 55% and Clinical Pharmacy is 70%, and the assessment manual says DHA calculates results from correct answers and the weighting of each domain.

Fees are from the Sheryan Get Registered page and the CBT guideline. Credentialing plus the exam comes to about Rs.28,257 (AED 1,081). This excludes DataFlow, travel to the centre and any rescheduling charge. Exam fees are non-refundable, including rescheduling, cancellation and no-shows, and Prometric states a strict no-refund policy.
Exchange rate used: Rs.26.13 per AED (the dollar fee converted at 3.6725 AED per dollar). Verify the current rate before finalising your budget.
Counselor insight: The manual lists American Express, MasterCard and Visa credit cards for Prometric payments, and the fee is in dollars. Ask your bank about international transactions and forex charges before booking day.
How to Apply for the DHA Exam for Pharmacist, Step by Step
- Check your exam mode. Use 'Mode of Exam per Specialty' on Sheryan to confirm your pharmacy title needs a computer test.
- Create a Sheryan account and complete the free Self Assessment Tool.
- Start primary source verification with DataFlow. DHA says verification and the computer test can run in parallel.
- Generate your eligibility ID. Copy your DHA Unique ID, then generate the Eligibility ID in Sheryan.
- Book on Prometric's DHA page with that ID and pay by credit card. Arrive 30 minutes early with your passport.
- Submit Get Registered and pay the credentialing fee. Average processing is five working days. Drafts inactive for six months are cleared.
| Document | Why it matters | India-specific detail |
|---|---|---|
| Passport and recent photo | Identity check at the centre | Spell your name exactly as on the passport, including expanded initials |
| Pharmacy degree and transcripts | PQR needs the transcript for credentialing | Ask your college early; it must respond to DataFlow |
| State pharmacy council registration | PQR requires a valid home-country licence | Renew it before you apply |
| Experience letters | Proves the two years | Use letterhead with dates and duties; roles must be related pharmacy practice |
| Good Standing Certificate | Needed for exemption routes | PQR says it must be no older than six months when you apply |
| Diploma certificate | Pharmacy Technician title only | Check the course ran at least two years |
Counselor insight: Name mismatches are the avoidable mistake. The manual says the passport must match your Sheryan details, and DHA asks you to report a mismatch at least five days before the exam.
How to Prepare for the DHA Exam for Pharmacist
The guideline lists nine references for the Pharmacist paper. They include The APhA Complete Review for Pharmacy, Goodman and Gilman's The Pharmacological Basis of Therapeutics, Shargel's Applied Biopharmaceutics and Pharmacokinetics, Ansel's Pharmaceutical Calculations, Aulton's Pharmaceutics, and Stine and Brown's Principles of Toxicology.
Practise on a screen, since the exam is computer-based. After the test, Prometric sends a learning outcome letter showing general strengths and weaknesses, not your result.
Prometric states that it does not sell test preparation or practice content. It calls any site claiming to offer official test content unauthorised.
Counselor insight: Test yourself first on the practice-side topics: pharmaceutical care, medication safety, over-the-counter medication, law and ethics, and therapeutic decision making. Indian degree programs often lean towards industrial subjects, so these topics may need the most time.
Which DHA Exam Route Fits Your Situation?
- If you are a B.Pharm or Pharm.D graduating in 2026, you do not yet meet the two-year experience requirement for the Pharmacist title. Use 2026 to gain qualifying experience and collect documents.
- If you have three years in pharma sales or manufacturing, those years do not count under the PQR note. Recount only related pharmacy practice before you pay anything.
- If you hold a D.Pharm diploma, the PQR lists Pharmacy Technician as a diploma of at least two years plus two years of experience. Run the Self Assessment Tool, and expect a 55% pass mark for that title.
- If you hold an M.Pharm with one year of practice, a specialty master's may reduce the experience requirement by one year. Confirm the result with the Self Assessment Tool before booking.
DHA Exam for Pharmacist Planning Calendar for 2026
| Month | Task |
|---|---|
| Apr to Jun 2026 | Run a self-assessment, count qualifying experience months, confirm council registration |
| Jul to Sep 2026 | Collect degree, transcripts and experience letters; match names to passport |
| Oct to Dec 2026 | Once you meet the two years, start DataFlow and generate an eligibility ID |
| Jan to Feb 2027 | Sit the exam; result appears on Sheryan within two working days |
| Mar 2027 | Submit Get Registered and approach Dubai employers |
All figures were checked against DHA documents in October 2026. Recheck Sheryan before you pay. Graduates of 2026 will likely reach the experience requirement later than this calendar, so treat 2026 as preparation time.
Counselor insight: Book with a buffer. Rescheduling must happen five calendar days before the exam, and Prometric may charge a centre-specific fee.
What If You Fail or Miss Your DHA Exam Slot?
- Missed slot: A cancelled or missed exam is not a failed attempt, but the fee is not refunded. Rescheduling is possible up to five calendar days before.
- Low score: You can reapply with no waiting period between dates, subject to availability. DHA allows three attempts. A third failure blocks reapplication for two years.
- After three failures: DHA may allow one final attempt with another authority. A fourth DHA attempt may be allowed with a declaration letter. New attempts open after an extra recognised qualification or two years of clinical experience.
- Career break: A pharmacist out of practice for 3 to under 4 years needs 20 CME/CPD credits and 6 months of training. A gap of 4 to under 5 years needs 30 credits and 8 months.
- Delayed result: Results post to Sheryan within two working days. Write to info@dha.gov.ae if nothing appears.
- Name mismatch: Contact DHA at least five days before the exam, since DHA is not responsible for extra charges on new or rescheduled exams.
Counselor insight: DHA shares no score, so a fail gives little feedback. Use the learning outcome letter to rebuild your plan before the next attempt.
After the DHA Exam for Pharmacist: Registration and Activation
Passing leads to a registration certificate valid for one year from the result date. The manual states it is not a permit to practise. A licensed health facility must activate it into a licence, so a job offer comes before you can start work.

Frequently Asked Questions About DHA Exam for Pharmacist
-
What is the DHA exam for pharmacist?
The DHA exam for pharmacist is the computer-based licensing test that Dubai Health Authority sets for pharmacy professionals who want to work in Dubai. Prometric delivers it, and DHA publishes a Pass or Fail result on Sheryan. It is not a university admission exam, and an employer must still activate your licence after you pass.
-
Can Indian pharmacists skip the DHA exam?
Pharmacists with a valid licence and Good Standing Certificate from listed countries, such as the UK or USA, can be exempt from the exam under conditions. India is not on that list. Passing the UAE's Emirates Pharmacy Residency Entry Examination also qualifies. The exemption covers only the exam, not credentialing or verification.
-
How long do DHA exam results take for pharmacists?
DHA uploads the result to your Sheryan account within two working days. It is Pass or Fail only, and DHA does not share your score. Prometric also sends a learning outcome letter showing general strengths and weaknesses, but not the result. Write to info@dha.gov.ae for result queries.
-
How many attempts do I get for the DHA exam for pharmacist?
DHA allows three attempts in total under the unified PQR. Failing the third attempt blocks you from reapplying for a DHA licence for two years. DHA can reduce the permitted attempts to one or two where competency gaps may put patients at risk. A cancelled or missed exam does not count as a failed attempt.
-
Does pharma industry experience count for the DHA exam for pharmacist?
The PQR states that experience with pharmaceutical companies or sales representatives is not accepted. It does not define 'related field' beyond that, so use only your hospital, community or other pharmacy practice years in your count. Confirm your roles through the Sheryan Self Assessment Tool before paying any fee.
-
How much does the DHA exam for pharmacist cost in India?
The Prometric fee is Rs.23,031 ($240) for Pharmacist, Pharmacy Technician and Clinical Pharmacy. Add the Rs.5,226 (AED 200) credentialing fee and a separate DataFlow verification fee. Exam fees are non-refundable, including rescheduling, cancellation and no-shows, so book only once you are sure you are eligible.
-
What is the syllabus of the DHA exam for pharmacist?
The guideline lists 14 topics, including toxicology, medicinal chemistry, compounding, pharmacokinetics, pharmaceutical care, medication safety, over-the-counter medication, pharmacy law and ethics, and clinical pharmacology. It publishes a reference list but no percentage weights, so treat websites quoting topic percentages with caution.
-
What is the passing score for the DHA exam for pharmacist?
The pass score for Pharmacist is 60%, according to the DHA guideline updated in September 2026. Pharmacy Technician is 55% and Clinical Pharmacy is 70%. Websites quoting a general 55 to 60% range do not separate the titles, so check the guideline for your exact title before you study.
-
Can B.Pharm freshers take the DHA exam for pharmacist?
Not for the Pharmacist title yet. The PQR requires BSc Pharmacy or Pharm.D plus two years of experience after qualification in a related field. Freshers should gain that experience first. A master's in your specialty may reduce the requirement by one year, so check the Self Assessment Tool.
