The University of Manchester's history dates back to 1824 when the Royal School of Medicine and Surgery and the Manchester Mechanics Institute were founded.
Located in the heart of Manchester, the university is renowned for its diverse student body and welcoming community. It has a large international student population, with over 12,000 students from more than 160 countries, making it one of the most diverse universities in the UK.
After various stages of growth and transformation, the university was officially launched in 2004, following the merger of two universities: Victoria University of Manchester and The University of Manchester Institute of Science and Technology (USMIT).
Its campus is over 2.5 square kilometres and comprises multiple buildings and facilities, including libraries, research centres, and student accommodations.
