Studying abroad has always been a popular choice among Indian students. The USA, UK, Canada, Australia, and Ireland are among the most sorted study abroad destinations among English-speaking countries. According to a study in 2021, 94% of students are more eager to study abroad than in 2020.

Hence, to study in the most sorted universities, it is mandatory to have competency and a grasp of English. To prove competency, a student must submit an English language test such as IELTS, TOEFL ®, PTE or others, depending on the institution. An aspirant has to provide an IELTS TRF, the Test Report Form, to the respective authority for the IELTS exam.

What is TRF in IELTS?

A TRF is a copy of a candidates IELTS result. Every test taker is provided with a TRF with a validity of 2 years, but the count of TRFs depends on the type of applicant. For example, if a candidate has applied for CIC or UKBA, they will receive two TRFs while other applicants will receive only one.

What information does the IELTS test report form have?

Examinees will receive a single TRF, except candidates who have applied for Citizenship and Immigration Canada (CIC) or United Kingdom Border Agency (UKBA). However, an applicant has to prove their application of CIC or UKBA. The TRF full form in IELTS is Test Report Form. The form will consist of the following things –

Delivering IELTS test report to institutes

A test taker can request to send the IELTS test report form to 5 institutions within 1 month of taking the test. Hard copies of the test report will be sent to the receiving institutions through DHL courier services, and test-takers will be charged accordingly. But, if the receiving institutions accept electronic copies of TRF, then the authorities will arrange those without any extra charge.

Additionally, if a candidate wishes for extra IELTS TRFs, after a month of taking the test, they have to fill the “Application for the Issue of Additional TRFs” form. This application form contains ‘Candidates Name’, ‘Address of Correspondence’ and other personal details such as contact number, Email ID, Date of Birth etc. Also, test centre details are required along with ‘Candidate Number’.

Apart from these, an applicant also needs to provide details to the place where the report is supposed to send, which contains the name of the person or the department, the name of the college/university and others. Applicants should also remember that IELTS authorities will charge extra fees for every additional TRF request after 1 month. Also, an IELTS test report is valid for 2 years only.

What is the Additional Test Report Form (ATRF)?

Suppose an applicant wants to send additional copies of test results apart from already approved 5 copies, then they have to submit the ATRF. It should be noted that ATRFs can only be sent to the institutions directly.

An administrative charge of Rs.250 is levied on candidates for ATRF sent to each institution/university by Registered Airmail. But, if a candidate requests to send reports through courier (available only to international destinations), Rs.1250 will be charged per request.

Delivery Charges for ATRF

The charges for the Additional Test Report Form (ATRF) are mentioned below –

  • For international couriers, Rs.1250 will be charged per address. Additionally, on average, the courier service will take about 4 days to deliver the courier to their respective address. Candidates can also track their courier with a tracking ID, which will be provided to them.
  • To send via Airmail, Rs.250 will be charged per address. But it should be noted that no tracking ID will be provided in this case.
  • To send test reports electronically, Rs.250 will be charged from each candidate.

Latest update on ATRF

IELTS authority has made an important change on 1st February 2020 due to the outbreak of COVID-19, regarding ATRF. The IELTS authorities are not accepting physical applications for ATRF. Thus, a candidate has to visit their login page from the official portal to apply for ATRF. This online application has a lot of benefits for candidates –

  • It reduces the time of courier transfer.
  • Instant approval through Email.
  • Candidates now don’t need to submit any documents at the IELTS centre.
  • It reduces the overall processing time.

How to find the IELTS TRF number?

The TRF number can be found on the website’s unofficial result and the test report form. But, it should be noted that this cannot be used officially. To send the official test reports, candidates have to contact the authorities. They can send their reports to 5 institutions within one month by paying certain charges.

But if they opt to send more TRFs to institutions after 1 month, examinees will have to pay extra charges. Thus, candidates can apply for additional IELTS TRF with a minimal charge. Candidates should keep in mind that these additions TRFs are sent directly to the institutions, and candidates can track those with a tracking ID provided.

Note that tracking is only possible if a candidate has opted for a courier service. The single copy of the TRF provided to the candidate should be kept safe, and he/she shouldn’t submit that to any authority. For electronic transfers, an applicant can only perform 5 transfers. With rising competition to get admissions at foreign universities, a high band of IELTS is favourable.

Also, aspirants should keep in mind the rising fee structure of the top-ranked universities. Leap Finance helps deserving students all over the country to get through the doors of universities in a foreign land by providing monetary assistance.
