How To Send IELTS Score To Universities? Easy TRF Sending Process 2024

Method 1: Electronic Mode

In the electronic mode, the IELTS score report is sent directly to the universities or institutions through the IELTS website or the IELTS test centre. This method allows for quick and secure delivery of your scores to the universities of your choice.

Most universities now accept scores electronically through the IELTS Results Service, but it is advisable to check with your chosen university to confirm if they accept scores in this format.

If the university supports electronic submissions, you can follow the specific instructions provided by the institution to send your scores securely and promptly. This usually involves linking your IELTS test registration to your university application.

Method 2: Physical Mode

In the physical mode, the IELTS score report is sent as a hard copy via postal mail or courier service to the designated universities or institutions. This method may take longer than electronic mode, but it is still a reliable way to ensure that universities receive your scores.

If the university does not support electronic submissions or if you prefer to send a hard copy, you can request an official Test Report Form (TRF) or electronic Test Report Form (eTRF) from the IELTS test centre where you took the exam.

Once you have the official document, you can mail it directly to the university’s admissions office following their specific mailing instructions for IELTS score reports.

IELTS Score Sending Fees

There is no extra fee for electronically sending the TRF to the university directly from an IELTS examination centre. However, if test-takers want to send their IELTS score to more than five universities, there is an extra charge of around $3.75(INR 320) for every additional university. This charge remains the same when sending the IELTS TRF physically to selected universities.

However, there is an additional $19(INR 1582) charge to mail the TRF hardcopy if the university is located in an international destination.

In case a test taker is looking to request additional TRF to colleges after more than a month of the test, he/she needs to fill in a form known as Application for the Issue of Additional TRFs. There is a specific charge for each ATRF a candidate applies for.

Additional charges for mailing an ATRF physically for each institution stand at around $3.75(INR 320), while an additional $19(INR 1582) is required for international universities.

Test Report Form (TRF)

The Test Report Form (TRF) is printed within 13 days of the test day. Test takers can collect their TRF at IDP IELTS offices after the results are released. They need to bring the same identity proof used during registration.

Candidates will get one original Test Report Form unless they are applying to UKBA (United Kingdom Border Agency) or CIC (Citizenship and Immigration Canada). In such cases, two TRFs are provided after providing proof of application to CIC/UKBA.

An IELTS Test Report Form (TRF) includes the following information:

  • Test Type: Indicates whether the test was Academic or General Training.
  • Centre Number: This is the unique number assigned to the test centre where you took the exam.
  • Test Date: The specific date on which you took the IELTS exam.
  • Candidate Number: A unique identification number assigned to the candidate.
  • Candidate Details: This section includes details such as Family Name, First Name, and Candidate ID.
  • Personal Details: This section includes details such as Date of Birth, Gender, Scheme Code, Country, and First Language
  • Test Results: This section includes scores for each section of the IELTS exam (Listening, Reading, Writing, and Speaking) along with the Overall Band Score and the corresponding CEFR Level.
  • IELTS TRF Number: A unique number located at the bottom right corner of the form.

How to Calculate IELTS Band Score

While applying for universities in native-English speaking countries, it is necessary to send the IELTS scores as well. Here is a comprehensive overview of how to calculate IELTS scores before attaching them to college applications.

IELTS markings are based on a 9-mark scale for all four sections – Reading, Writing, Listening and Speaking. The scores will vary from 1 to 9, and a score can either be a whole or a half band. One scores a band for each section – reading, listening, writing and speaking. The overall IELTS score is based on the average score of the four sections.

Let us put forward an example for better understanding.

SectionScore
Listening6
Writing7
Reading5.5
Speaking6.5
IELTS overall band score6 + 7 + 5.5 + 6.5 = 25/4 = 6.25

When an IELTS overall band score ends with .75 or .25, it is rounded off to the nearest half or whole band. So, in the above example, the effective IELTS band score is 7.

Steps to Check IELTS Score

Prior to checking your result, you should know how your IELTS score is calculated. Your results are given based on a band score ranging from band 0 to band 9, with 0 being the lowest and 9 the highest.

Each of the four components – Listening, Reading, Writing, and Speaking, is scored individually on a scale of 0-9. The overall band score is then calculated as the average of these four scores, rounded to the nearest whole or half band.

Here is a step-by-step guide to calculating the score before sending IELTS scores to universities.

  1. Go to the official IELTS website
  2. Then, click on “Take an exam” and select IELTS
  3. On the right side, click on the option Your Results
  4. Then, click on Preview your results online
  5. Test takers can fill in the necessary details and then click on Find

In case, students are wondering about the details necessary for finding IELTS scores, they can check below.

  1. Date of the test taken
  2. Candidate’s date of birth
  3. The applicant or candidate number
  4. Identification document number

Conclusion

Scoring higher in IELTS signifies greater command over the English language and possessing adequate communication abilities. Each immigration or university has specific IELTS score requirements. Moreover, your IELTS score also needs to match the requirements of your purpose, that is, work or study for successful admission.
