General Instructions for IELTS Listening

 

You'll listen to recordings of people talking or giving speeches during testing. These recordings can be anything from casual conversations to more formal lectures. Listen closely, then answer some questions about what you've heard.


 

This test has four sections, each containing four recordings and 40 questions, but this practice test contains one section with 10 questions of the overall IELTS Listening section.

  • You are not allowed to open this section unless asked to do so.
  • Listen to the instructions of each section carefully.
  • Answer all the questions
  • Be alert while listening to the audio
  • Take notes of the keywords while listening to the audio
  • You will be given only 10 minutes to write your answers on the separate answer sheet at the end of the test, for which you have to use a pencil.

You must listen to specific information and provide brief, accurate answers for the short answer questions of the IELTS Listening Test.

 

How to best answer the question
 

  • Listen carefully to the audio recording from the beginning. Look for the keywords and phrases associated with that question.
  • Try to predict what information might be relevant to the question before you hear the answer. For a short answer, anticipate the type of information that is required.
  • Look at the word limits. Ensure your answer is one word, not a phrase when the question asks you to say just one word.
  • To help you concentrate while listening, underline or memorise the most important terms of the question.

 

Library Information IELTS Listening Answers: Explanations

 

Question 1:

Answer: (passport) photo/photograph


 

Explanation: The librarian asked the man to bring two passport-size photographs to paste on the library form, which he needs to fill out for registration.

 

Question 2:

Answer: Bank statement


  

Explanation: The librarian asked the man to bring his I.D., a driver's license or a bank statement. They wanted his I.D. to have his address on it and finally agreed on the man getting his bank statement.

 

Question 3:

Answer: £125 per year


 

Explanation: The man asked the librarian about the cost of joining, to which the librarian replied that it is free for students there, but otherwise, it is £125 a year or £25 for the students of other colleges.

 

Question 4:

Answer: 8


 

Explanation: The man asked how many books he could borrow, to which the librarian replied that a student could borrow 12 books, whereas the public could only borrow 8 books. 

 

Question 5:

Answer: 1.50

 

Explanation: The man asked about the period he could keep the books with books and was told that he could keep the books for 4 weeks and if he returned the books late, he would be fined £1.50 and £5 if he returned even later than the deadline. 

 

Question 6:

Answer: 48


 

Explanation: The librarian informed the man that using the computer is free for college students, but for external members like him, only the first hour is free. After that, he will be charged £1 per hour, and to book a computer, the earliest he could book is 48 hours before he needs it.

 

Question 7:

Answer: Local paper/local newspaper


 

Explanation: The man told the librarian that he needed to do some research, for which he needed to access national newspapers, too. The librarian told him they have all the newspapers, such as Sunday Times, local newspapers, and magazines. 

 

Question 8:

Answer: card/cards


 

Explanation: The man asked about photocopies, and the librarian told him he could get them and that a card was available. 

 

Question 9:

Answer: Grantham


 

Explanation: The man asked if they provided any writing classes at the library, and the librarian told him that they do and that he needs to talk to John Grantham (resident author), as he runs the creative writing classes. 

 

Question 10:

Answer: Friday


 

Explanation: To contact Grantham, the librarian asked him to e-mail Grantham in the library, and the creative writing classes take place there on Friday evenings.
