My insight: Don't read "no QS rank" as "not good." CBS simply isn't evaluated in the main QS World University Rankings, which is research-output heavy; it's judged separately for business and scores strongly there.

It is Denmark's oldest university (founded 1479), best known for Medicine, life sciences and natural sciences. The budget is mid to high; Humanities (Rs.11L/year) is cheaper than Science (Rs.18.4L/year).

It has campuses in Esbjerg and Copenhagen and is known for problem-based learning through real-world projects. It's the most budget-friendly university overall.

• Entry requirements: Bachelor's degree or Class 12 for select programs, IELTS 6.5

It is known purely for business education and holds triple accreditation (EQUIS, AACSB, AMBA). Fees sit at the high end, comparable to DTU.

• Entry requirements: Bachelor's degree with a quantitative or business background, IELTS 7.0

Here's the honest answer: it depends entirely on your citizenship, not on which of the best universities in Denmark you pick.

• EU/EEA and Swiss citizens: No tuition fee at any public Danish university.
• Indian (non-EU) citizens: You pay tuition. There's no free option unless you hold a qualifying Danish residence permit.
• Cheapest option for Indians: Aalborg's Economics and Business Administration program and SDU's Humanities faculty sit lowest, around Rs.8.2-11.9 lakh a year. Engineering and Science run Rs.17-19 lakh.

My insight: Students sometimes assume "Nordic country" means free education the way it does for EU citizens. Confirm your fee category on the university's admissions page before you apply, not after.

Tuition is only part of the budget. What you'll spend each year also depends on your city's cost of living and whether you land a scholarship.

Copenhagen is Denmark's most expensive city; other campus cities run 10-20% cheaper on rent. A private 1BR apartment outside the centre runs closer to DKK 9,000/month, but most students start in shared housing.

If your IELTS is below 6.5 and you're worried about UCPH or DTU cutoffs, 

Aarhus and SDU tend to be more flexible on language requirements for select programs and cost less for non-STEM courses. A retake is usually worth the delay if UCPH or DTU is genuinely your first choice.

Build it around process and iteration, not just finished work, and apply early since portfolio rounds close before the general January-March window.

University admission and your Danish residence permit are two separate processes, handled by two separate authorities. Here's exactly what each needs.

Once admitted, your residence permit goes through SIRI, Denmark's immigration authority, not the university.

My insight: Proof of funds is the document most often rejected on a technicality, usually an outdated bank statement. Check SIRI's current threshold before requesting the statement, not after.

• Missed the IELTS band requirement: Retake within the same cycle if time allows, or apply to SDU or Aalborg programs with slightly lower requirements for the same subject.
• Rejected from UCPH or DTU: Aarhus, SDU, and Aalborg are realistic fallback options in the same QS bracket for most subjects, not a step down in recognition.
• Missed the January-March window entirely: A few universities run a secondary intake for under-subscribed programs; check directly with admissions rather than assume the door is closed.
• Visa delayed past the semester start: Contact the international office immediately. Most allow late arrival if the visa is genuinely in process.

My insight: Call the admissions office of your one realistic backup and ask directly about a late or secondary intake; this usually isn't posted publicly.

• Match your course to the university, not just the overall QS rank. CBS, Royal Danish Academy, Aarhus, and UCPH each lead in different fields.
• Budget Rs.8.2-19 lakh a year in tuition plus roughly Rs.1.2-1.5 lakh a month in living costs, and apply for the Danish Government Scholarship or Erasmus Mundus early since most are automatic once admitted.
• Keep SDU and Aalborg as genuine fallback options if UCPH, DTU, or Aarhus cutoffs don't work out for your profile.
