• The most prevalent type of merit award is a university scholarship, which is generally based on academic performance in high school. 
• Weighted grade point average, curriculum rigors (AP/IB/Honors courses), and class rank are among the criteria (if applicable). 
• Various non-numerical, holistic characteristics that define the candidate's past, as given in the personal statement or Common Application essay, are also considered as part of the evaluation process. 
• Because of these comprehensive aspects, the student body is diverse and multi-talented. Exceptional and distinctive abilities, a commitment to community service and leadership, major family, employment, or community duty, and contributions to cultural, economic, or ethnic diversity are all possible holistic criteria. 
• Please keep in mind that SAT/ACT scores are not used in the scholarship selection process.

• 2000 - 20000 provided the candidate maintains a 3.00 GPA and meets all other terms and conditions of the specific award.

• Academic scholarships are available to incoming first-year students at the University of Pittsburgh. 

In addition to submitting a completed application by December 1st, the following criteria must be met:

• To be considered for a scholarship, you must submit a personal statement or a Common Application essay.
• Some scholarships require an interview and/or have extra prerequisites before being selected (see scholarship types below).
• Students who are accepted for the spring semester are not eligible for a scholarship.
