- The applicant must be a full-time graduate student in the David R. Cheriton School of Computer Science at the University of Waterloo.
- Academic excellence, evidence of research potential, as evidenced by publications and letters of recommendation, and a demonstrated interest in research that addresses problems associated with designing and implementing efficient and reliable computing systems, as well as their effective integration, are used to select applicants.
