Chevening Scholarships enable excellent emerging leaders from throughout the world to study in the United Kingdom for a one-year master's degree. Eligibility

  • To be considered for a Chevening Scholarship, you must meet the following requirements:
  • To be eligible for Chevening, you must be a citizen of a Chevening-qualified country or territory.
  • After your award has finished, you must return to your home country for a minimum of two years.
  • By the time you submit your application, you should have completed all components of an undergraduate degree that will allow you to enroll in a postgraduate program at a UK university. In the United Kingdom, this is normally equivalent to an upper second-class 2:1 honors degree, but it may differ based on your study and university of choice.
  • Have at least two years of work experience (equal to 2,800 hours).
  • By July 14, 2022, you must have applied to three different approved UK university courses and obtained an unconditional offer from one of them. If you meet the following criteria, you will not be considered for a Chevening Scholarship:
  • Unless you are a citizen of a British Overseas Territory or hold BN(O) and are applying from Hong Kong, you must be a British or dual British citizen.
  • Have refugee status in a country that is not a Chevening qualifying country. Applicants must be citizens of a Chevening-eligible country and have refugee status in that country to be considered for a scholarship.
  • Are an employee, a former employee, or a relative* of an employee of Her Majesty's Government, or have been within the last two years from the opening of Chevening applications (including the Foreign and Commonwealth Office, all British Embassies/High Commissions, the Home Office, the Ministry of Defence, the Department for Business, Energy, and Industrial Strategy, and the Department for International Trade).
  • A staff member of the Association of Commonwealth Universities, the British Council, or a sponsored UK university
    Workers, former employees, and relatives* of Chevening Partner employees are allowed to apply, however if the employment took place within the last two years, you will not be eligible for a Chevening Partner Award from the organization where you work, previously worked, or are related to.
  • Have previously studied in the United Kingdom with the support of a UK government scholarship.
    You can apply for a Chevening Award to study for a second master's degree in the UK even if you have a master's degree, as long as you can clearly explain why it will assist you fulfil your career plan to influence positive change in your native country.
