About the Scholarship

  • Professor of English at Leeds from 1936 until 1955, Bonamy Dobrée is well known for his work on Restoration and Eighteenth-Century Literature, as well as a major study of Rudyard Kipling.
  •  As a journalist, theatrical critic, and literary scholar in the 1920s, he was a close friend of TS Eliot, Leonard Woolf, and Herbert Read, and a member of the Bloomsbury group.
  •  He is remembered as a helpful instructor and mentor at Leeds, and his papers, which are currently housed in the Brotherton Library, have proven to be a significant resource for academics.

Eligibility

  • Applicants with (at least) a 2.1 Bachelor's degree in English or a closely related subject from the United Kingdom. 
  • Applicants must also have an IELTS score of 6.5 or above. 
  • Prior to submitting their scholarship application, applicants must have applied to the School for an academic position. 
  • All submissions are evaluated solely on academic merit by the Scholarship Committee.
