KSU is eligible to be included in the top 250 US universities due to its higher acceptance rate of 86% for admissions in 2020. Admissions decisions are primarily based on the background checks performed on applicants through letters of recommendation, with little emphasis placed on GPA or high school rank. In 2022, Kent State University is ranked #738 among all universities in the world by US News and World Report. Since 2021, this rank position has dropped from #683 to #684. Visit Kent State University Admission for information about admission.

In the rankings of the best universities in the world for 2022, QS and THE place KSU in the 1000–1200 and 800-1000 ranges, respectively. KSU receives below-average rankings from QS in the following categories: citations per faculty (26.1), international student ratio (7.3), faculty-student ratio (7.2), academic reputation (6.3), employer reputation (5.4), and no overall ranking. On the other hand, THE does not give points to universities that do not meet the criteria for the top 500 universities list. Therefore, KSU does not have access to pillar-wise scores.

By following defined protocols for providing examinations in a professional and standardised manner, the Placement and Testing office improves student learning experiences. The university works hard to ensure that students are placed in courses that are appropriate for their skill level, laying the groundwork for future success. They assist students, Kent State University instructors, and test sponsors domestically and internationally by administering examinations in a timely, fair, and accurate manner. The National College Testing Association's Professional Standards and Guidelines have been adopted by the centre.

Mathematics Placement

Most incoming New Freshman and transfer students who have not completed a college-level mathematics course at another college or university, earned scores of 3 or higher on the Advanced Placement (AP) Calculus AB or Calculus BC test, or earned course equivalent college credit through an alternative credit-granting programme such as CLEP, will be required to take mathematics placement.

Foreign Language Placement

Even if they have never studied a foreign language before, newly admitted students majoring in programmes with a foreign language requirement or who plan to study a foreign language should complete the foreign language placement questionnaire prior to their initial advising visit. Returning students who have not completed a language placement test but want to learn a foreign language should fill out the placement questionnaire as well.

English Placement

Undergraduates are assigned to an initial English course depending on their standardised test scores (ACT/SAT, Accuplacer). If a student believes their course placement is incorrect, they can contest it.

Major companies recruiting from the university are:

Centene Corporation, Cleveland Clinic, IDP Education Ltd, JP Morgan Chase, KeyBank, Lenovo, Safeguard Properties, Santander Consumer USA, 3M Health Care etc.

  • A professional, full-time resident hall director or area coordinator. The director collaborates with graduate and resident assistants to provide healthy and pleasant learning environments
  • All entrance doors and student rooms have swipe-card locks
  • For enhanced security, there are safety helpers and campus escorts
  • Wireless connectivity throughout the building
