When I was a kid, I had a little pencil box which had these four buttons which gave the pencil box an operative use. When you press the button, the box would open up. When you press the second button, a little part of it would slide out. Basically it was just a little electronical and a fun thing to have and I owned it when I was in 6th. One day after break, I was standing and talking there with one of my friends and another friend of mine was running through the hallway and accidentally she pushed my shoulder and my pencil box hit the ground and it broke into multiple pieces to the point that it was not functional anymore.

    Answer

It Ends With Us is a book I read recently. It's by the author Colleen Hoare. It's mainly a story about two teenagers, Atlas and Lily, and how they just handle their life going through high school, adolescence, and just domestic violence at home. Both of them come from very, very different families. However, they have one common determining factor between them, which is domestic violence. The abuse that they've seen their moms go through is just insane, and they connect through that on a different level. They're actually in the same high school, but they never speak to each other until Atlas actually crashes into an empty house next to Lily's villa. When Atlas is homeless and he doesn't have anywhere to go, he just comes and breaks into the house next to Lily's, and Lily helps him with all the daily necessities like clothes and food, medicines and stuff. Furthermore, their friendship blossoms into love, but it doesn't really fructify as Atlas has to leave. This book really gave me a lot of knowledge about domestic abuse and how to deal with it.

I would like to talk about my sister and how she got her first job. When she was around 21 or 22 years old, she was preparing for her internship in the campus placement facilities that were being provided to her. I remember this very vividly because I know that she was very nervous and that company was a dream job and she had prepared a lot for it. So I was very proud when she told me that she's been selected as IT associate in the biggest FMCG company Hindustan Unilever. Back in her time it was a very big achievement and being the opposite gender had always been the question that how is she going to manage everything being a girl and I felt extremely proud of her when she told me that she achieved what she actually dreamed about and I feel that she as a person motivates me to pursue things that are difficult.

    Band 6-7

So, the family member who I would like to share about is my mother. She was the person I felt, she was the person who I felt proud on. When I was in my ninth grade, my mom started computer classes. My mother did not actually pass her 12 board exams and she did not do anything for herself until then. She has always been focused on raising me and looking after the family. That was the first time she tried to do something for herself and started taking up computer classes. When I was in my 10th grade, she actually got through with the courses and got a certificate. That was the day I felt the most proud of my mother. She did something for herself and did not stay inside her boundaries which she put for herself like a gate which is laid out in front. She just broke those gates and came out of her comfort zone. That is why I was feeling so overwhelmed and happy that she achieved something and that feeling could not be explained in words. Once in a blue moon, she uses the computer now but still she never used to do that in her early stages like when I was even little. We have been having a computer in our home for as long as I could remember but I have never seen her working on it. Now she is using it every other day for a lot of things like organizing efficiently and looking at things which she needs, looking up recipes for cooking. So it has improved her life.

The person whom I was the most proud of in my family was my brother. So my brother was not a very confident child. He was never very good at studies. He was not exceptional. He was just average. It was back in 2023 that he made a decision that he would go to Canada to pursue his studies. He was pursuing a bachelor's in computer science there. So I think the job market at that time was very tight. Not everyone was getting jobs. There were not a lot of opportunities there and I think that disheartened him. He applied to over 50 interviews. He got 20 interviews in return and guess what? He got rejected by all of them. He was heartbroken. He was disappointed in himself and he felt a deprivation of his sense in the sense that he was underconfident because he could not convert a single one of them. So he decided to come back to India. He grinded here. He worked day and night. He hustled every single day. He spent hours in front of the laptop grinding, solving DSA questions and then finally one day out of the blue, I was just sleeping at my night and it was my exam the next day and he woke me up and said, Amey, I got the interview and I think that was the proudest moment for me because I really liked and enjoyed the sense that he was having his first big success. It was a very tremendous moment because after constant efforts, so much dedication, putting in days and nights, he finally got that interview and he converted the job. Now he was going back to Canada and I think I felt a great sense of pride whenever I told someone that guess what? My brother made it to AMD. He's working there. So I think that's one of the biggest achievements that he has displayed and I think it makes me very proud for my brother. I think he's one of the most smartest persons here.

Today I'm going to talk about the family moment when my parents feel proud that is none other. He got the invitation for the interview with the Prime Minister Narendra Modi where he tell about the struggle he faced during the examination and how he got that such good marks. However after that we celebrate in the seminar hall with our guest where we discuss how their children also can be succeed in the future and we also got the picture in the newspaper regarding his achievement which make me feel very proud still now and I also follow his struggle and perspective to succeed in life.

It's always very pleasurable to see the accomplishments of our own family members. Same goes with me. Recently my sister just got the visa of Canada. It was a study visa. She was applying since six months for the applications of the study. And eventually she met her expectations and we all were very proud of her. Because she was one of the first family members from our home to go there. And we all really enjoyed that moment. We celebrated that moment by organizing a formal meeting of our near and dear ones. We organized a dinner for them. And they all congratulated and appreciated my sister for her accomplishments. And also gave some tips and tricks to live in the harsh cold conditions of Canada. And at that time I was very proud of her as everyone was appreciating her. And I also believe that it also happens with me at some point of my life. So I could also enjoy that limelight.

It exactly happened one year ago on November 5th, 2024. It was my dad. My dad had built our dream home, which was our long-standing dream since our childhood. We had been dreaming of constructing such a home from our young age, but we could not due to tougher situations and increase in the cost of living and also lack of money. But due to my dad's hard work and his consistent efforts of saving money, we were able to construct a home and complete it last year. Since then, we are living in the same home. It is a very beautiful feeling to have a house of our own, to have a place which we call home. It is a feeling which cannot be bought by money or by any means. It is a feeling which has to be felt when all family members live under the same roof and feel the joy in it. So that is why I felt proud about my dad for giving us the chance to experience this joy, which is obviously invaluable, which is much valuable. We cannot pay price to this.

So, the very first time I felt really proud of one of my family member was when my brother stood 18th position in 12th Manipur examination, standard 12th. So, I was in Delhi, I was getting ready for my office and my sister called me. She asked me to check the result because during that time, we have some clashes going on in Manipur in my hometown. Because of that, internet was not working. So, I checked the results, I shared the score and I was getting ready and I got a call from my brother and he said that he stood 18th position and I was like, what? I was so surprised that he stood 18th position in the whole Manipur in the 12th examination and I felt really proud that I even cried my heart out. I was so happy and overwhelmed that yes, my brother did it. All his hard work pays off and I was really happy. My whole family cried, we celebrated that day and that is one of the most memorable day of my life and that was the very moment that my brother made me felt proud and I was like, I looked at the mirror and I cried and I said, yes, I did it. I did it. I did. As a sister, I was very proud and that experience was like a once in a lifetime experience and I am literally happy for my brother and I am looking forward that he will do best in his life.
