Originally founded in 1837 as Marshall Academy, it is named after the fourth Chief Justice of the United States, John Marshall. Eligibility

Applicants must be over the age of compulsory school attendance in West Virginia and have a high school diploma (official transcript with graduation date necessary).
Regular freshman entry requires an overall Grade Point Average of 2.00 on a 4.00 scale, an ACT Composite score of 19 or SAT Total Score1 of 990, or an overall Grade Point Average of 3.00 on a 4.00 scale, and an ACT Composite of 16 or SAT Total Score1 of 880. Admission standards for majors in the College of Engineering and Computer Sciences are more stringent. For specific information on requirements, please reference the current undergraduate academic catalogue.

Admission Process

1.Admissions application that is complete.
2.A $40 application fee that is non-refundable.
3.An official, final transcript from the student's high school, indicating the date of graduation, delivered immediately to the Marshall University Office of Admissions.
4.An official college transcript delivered directly from the college or university to the Marshall University Office of Admissions if a student attended non-Marshall college course(s) while in high school or summer school.

5.Scores from the American College Test (ACT) or Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT) sent straight from the testing organisation. Except for applicants who graduated from high school five years or more ago, the Higher Education Policy Commission requires all freshmen to submit the American College Test (ACT) or Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT) scores. Students who are admitted without ACT or SAT results because they meet other eligibility standards should speak with their academic counsellors about meeting math and English prerequisites. Students' ACT or SAT test scores are used to place them in English and mathematics classes, as well as for scholarship applications, academic counselling, assessing eligibility for certain degree programmes, and meeting NCAA athletic eligibility standards. 

6.A current immunisation record that includes the measles, rubella, and other needed immunizations or screenings (or MMR). Students must submit confirmation of immunity before or during their first semester of attendance, otherwise they will be unable to enrol in subsequent semesters. Measles and rubella (or MMR) vaccine is not required for students born before January 1, 1957.
