Duquesne University is a private Catholic university located in the state of Pennsylvania. The university was founded in 1878 as the Pittsburgh Catholic College of the Holy Ghosts, before going on to become the first Catholic university in the state. The university has nine schools and institutions that offer around 189 courses, including undergraduate, graduate and doctoral studies.
The university has also been classified as a doctoral university for its high research output. The top programs at Duquesne University are Bachelors in International Business (BSBA), Ph.D in Nursing and MS in Supply Chain Management B The university main campus is located on 49 acres of land in the Uptown area of Pittsburgh. The campus is home to numerous historic buildings that accommodate classrooms, residential halls and offices. It is also the location of the Gumberg Library, which provides over half a million publications to students and faculty.
The other campuses of the university are the Capital Region Campus and a campus located in Rome, Italy. The average annual costs of attending university come to around USD 57,000, with tuition fee varying according to the length and type of program chosen. The university promotes Catholic values on campus thanks to its Spiritian origins.
It is also home to over 150 student clubs and organizations that promote collaboration and interaction for projects and non-academic activities. 19 fraternities and sororities help build the network of current students with alumni, improving their career prospects. The university is also represented in various collegiate sports by the Duquesne Dukes.
A number of eminent personalities have graduated from Duquesne University over the years. Amongst the most notable alumni include basketball player Norm Nixon, Bishop of Pittsburgh David Zubik and former United States Ambassador to Ireland Dan Rooney.
