This charter highlights the university's shared commitment to high-quality practice placements.

The term 'learner' is used in this charter to refer to all students enrolled in professional qualification courses in health care or social care at the University of Suffolk. Supervisors are included in the term 'Mentor'.

These are the standards that learners can expect from the placement areas:

  • Before the start of the placement, a placement profile/induction pack will be made accessible
  • You will be offered a pre-placement visit when you contact the placement location
  • Within the first week (4-5 days) of practice, meet with the allocated mentor/associate mentor
  • Mentors in nursing and midwifery will be required to hold approved teaching and assessing qualifications and be included on a live mentor register. All midwifery and nursing mentors in final placements will have been trained to be 'Sign-Off' mentors by NMC guidelines
  • The learner can expect to be: on the first day of practice:
  1. Oriented towards the direction of the placement area
  2. Fire, CPR, and applicable health and safety policies/procedures are also covered
  3. Informed of the educational resources available
  • That an initial meeting will be held during the first week of the placement, at which time proposed dates for mid-point and final interviews will be discussed. As specified by the documentation, the mentor will provide written and spoken comments
  • The mentor will clarify roles and responsibilities within the first week of the placement
  • To be given the necessary contact information for the specified practice/academic link
  • Any difficulties with practice will be resolved as soon as possible, adequately documented, and forwarded to the academic link or the allocations office if necessary
  • Before the completion of the placement, all documentation will be completed and signed
  • On the duty roster/equivalent, those practise hours will be noted

The university's four campuses in Ipswich, Bury St Edmunds, Great Yarmouth, and Lowestoft have high-end architecture. Some important buildings at the University of Suffolk are the "East Contemporary Art Collection", which contains 160 works from 115 artists, a six-story James Hehir Building including Cult Cafí©, accommodation residents, 24/7 libraries, and research areas, and many more. Additional facilities include fitness centres, modern sports centres with 3G football pitches, counselling and wellness centres, and more than 100 student clubs and organizations with various athletic opportunities.

The on-campus accommodation with 590-bed spaces is available in Athena Hall, located at the Ipswich campus. Being within walking distance from the town center and Ipswich Train Station, Athena Hall offers self-catering cluster flats and studio room options. Bronze, Silver, Gold, and Studio ensuites are available for 42 weeks, 48 weeks, and 50 weeks tenure with cost ranging from 130 GBP to 180 GBP per week that includes internet, kitchen (microwave, fridge with freezer, sink), study rooms, laundry, and bike storage facilities.

On-Campus Accommodation:

For first-year students or those studying at the University of Suffolk for the first time, Athena Hall, the on-campus halls of residence, is advised. It was designed and built expressly for students, and the University of Suffolk was involved in its creation and planning to ensure that it met university requirements.

Athena Hall does not require accreditation because it is an on-campus residence hall, although it does meet the requirements. With a seaside setting and proximity to the University, Ipswich Town, and the railway station, Athena Hall is ideally situated to make the most of student life.

Utility bills and broadband charges are included in the rental price of Athena Hall rooms. Rent is usually provided weekly to make comparing prices between houses easier, as well as a total contract price so you can see how much it will cost in total for the life of the tenancy.

Off-Campus Accommodation:

University appreciates that on-campus housing is not suitable for all students at the University of Suffolk. As a result, they launched the Accreditation Scheme to provide students with more options when deciding where to reside. University students were the driving force behind the Accredited Accommodation Scheme. The Accreditation Scheme includes privately owned and managed buildings and they only market those inspected by Ipswich Borough Council to ensure they satisfy university quality and safety criteria.

If you're on a tight budget or searching for a house with specific features, such as being in a particular area or having parking, accredited off-campus housing can be an excellent alternative to on-campus living. Members of the Accreditation Scheme will be able to advertise to students through the University of Suffolk only if their electrical wiring and gas inspection certificates are up to date, providing an incentive for the home to be kept safe and well maintained.

Utility expenditures and broadband charges are included in the rental price of accredited off-campus housing (unless otherwise stated). Rent is usually provided weekly to make comparing prices between houses easier, as well as a total contract price so you can see how much it will cost in total for the life of the tenancy. Off-campus housing is within walking distance of the college, as are the town centre and other amenities.

I still remember the day I received the email. My heart was racing, I felt dizzy and there was a lump in my throat. Graduation day wasn't supposed to be like this...I had been rejected by almost every university in the country and now faced the prospect of studying abroad. University of Suffolk was different, though

The University of Suffolk is a good college. They offer more than 100 undergraduate and postgraduate degrees, which is why I had chosen them to study my Masters. If you are searching for a science, technology, or engineering degree this school is one to consider.

I'm a graduate of the University of Suffolk and it's been an amazing experience that I would recommend to anyone. The staff is very helpful and friendly, making it an environment you can feel confident in. The facilities are what you would expect from a School of Science, Technology, and Engineering so you don't have to worry about the quality being too low.
