  • The third-oldest university in the English-speaking world, the University of St Andrews in Scotland, was founded in 1413. Known for its research in Medicine, Science, Religion, and Arts, it has an enrollment of 10,119 students (7,985 undergraduates and 2,133 postgraduates), coming from over 130 nations. There are four faculties divided into several academic schools and departments such as Biology, Philosophy, Music, and International Relations, offering Undergraduate and Postgraduate subjects like French, Divinity, Film Studies, Neuroscience, etc. 
  • There are various libraries on campus, such as the Main Library, JF Allen Library, and the Library at the Gateway, which house many printed and e-resources. Several non-degree programs are available, like summer school, upskilling courses, evening language courses, and Open Association.
  • The university provides over 4,000-bed spaces as accommodation, and residence halls have catered/self-catered single and shared rooms with dining facilities. Some options include University Hall, David Russell Apartments, and John Burnet Hall. 
  •  More than 150 student organizations are engaging in artistic, cultural, academic, and religious activities for extracurriculars. Students can also partake in over 50 sports clubs and 100 competitive sports teams. Placement reports show that approximately 94.9% of the undergraduates have found employment post-completion of the program.
  • The estimated undergraduate fee is GBP 1,820 for Scotland, GBP 9,250 for UK and GBP 25,100- GBP 32,910 for EU and international students. Financial aid is available in scholarships, bursaries, grants, etc., like Government Discretionary Funds, vacation grants, Fife Dux Scheme, BA International Honors Scholarship, Duncan Trust, and more.

For the years 2018, 2020, and 2021, the university has held the third-place position in The Complete University Guide. From the 2023-24 academic year, to make a competitive application, St. Andrews recommends  submitting applications by 30 November by following the steps below:

  1. Choose a course and make sure that you have met or are on target to meet the admission requirements
  2. Read the guide for applicants to learn about each stage of the admissions process

 

Postgraduate

Postgraduate candidates will be expected to hold a good second division (2.1) or first division UK Bachelor's degree with Honours, or the overseas equivalent, in a relevant subject, or a relevant postgraduate qualification.

Typical Indian degree equivalents with first-class grades of 60% to 80% (minimum) or 7.0-9.0 CGPA, depending on the institution attended.

 

English Language Requirements

All incoming students must demonstrate that they are proficient enough in English  to succeed at St. Andrews.

As evidence of English language competency, St. Andrews accepts a variety of language exams and credentials. If you attended school outside of the UK or speak English in addition to your native tongue, your application should also contain information regarding your level of English competence.

I attended the University of St Andrews and loved it, I think it is a great place to learn. There are many clubs and organizations on campus that are not just open to students but all members of the community. The university has a friendly nature and it's close proximity to the sea makes for a beautiful, care free environment.

The campus is beautiful, the people are friendly (except for those who think competition is key) and my course in particular has had some good placements.
