Three years back, I was serving as Deputy Commissioner of Customs in the Chennai Customs Zone. My work was to prevent smuggling in the Chennai Customs Zone. As a young and dynamic Deputy Commissioner, I was thoroughly checking and scrutinizing the data to identify certain elements who are indulging in smuggling. I found a case lead and then I pursued it with my team and I busted a big case of drug smuggling in the ports. So, as a reward, the department rewarded me with a cash of around 15,000 rupees in order to motivate me and the team to make further such cases. As an appreciation, this amount, I got it from the department. I wanted to give it back to the team who has helped me in making the case. I shared my happiness with them by throwing a treat in a good hotel and we had shared the memories and efforts that we have taken in busting this notable case in Chennai Customs Zone. So, on the whole, the XP entire episode of anti-evasion and the subsequent sharing of joy and happiness with the team has strengthened our social cohesion.

I was given a sum of 15,000 rupees on my 18th birthday by my grandmother. I remember being very confused and shocked at first when she had handed over that lump sum amount to me, stating that I deserved it as I was transitioning into an adult. Initially, I tried to refuse it and gave it back to her saying that it wasn't a custom in our family to receive money for our birthdays. Instead, I asked her for a gift or her blessing for that matter. She said that she wanted me to have the money since I could spend it in my college time or use it wisely by buying something for myself. I thought of many ways in which I could spend it. Several ideas did pop into my head, but I shunned them saying that I would save them and invest in it so that I can have an even bigger corpus to use later on in future for my higher studies. The most troublesome aspect of this entire event was me ending up losing all that money. It had gotten stolen from me and to this day I am still in regret thinking about the numerous ways in which I could have spent that money and bought myself so many luxurious items. I feel that when an opportunity is given to us to splurge on ourselves, we should take advantage of that situation rather than thinking about the future and hatching several dreams. So I feel like when I was presented with that opportunity,

Follow up questions

How did you feel about receiving money instead of a traditional gift?
Initially, I felt confused and shocked because it wasn't customary in my family to receive money for birthdays. I was more accustomed to receiving physical gifts, so it took me a moment to appreciate the gesture and understand her intentions.

What did you plan to do with the money before it was stolen?
I had many ideas on how to spend the money, but I ultimately decided to save and invest it for my higher studies. I wanted to ensure that I had a financial cushion for college expenses, which I thought was a wise decision at the time.

What lesson did you learn from this experience?
I learned that opportunities should be embraced when they arise. While saving for the future is important, it's also essential to enjoy the present and make the most of what we have. Losing that money made me realize the value of balancing both perspectives.

I received money as a gift from my aunt on my birthdays. She has this usual thing that on all my birthdays she used to give me maybe five hundred to thousand rupees for me to use it for myself. It was a very sweet gesture from her side because she believed that whatever she gets for me she was not sure if that would make me happy because I was very selective and very naughty kid. So she believed that giving me money would give me flexibility to buy whatever I need and I can then use it and be happy about it. So on every birthday she used to give me this money and on the other side she used to also tell me to use this money very well and taking her advice I used to go to some shop and buy something for myself. It was really very sweet because I was very much into cartoon toys and I remember I used to buy cartoon toys with with that money every year and I felt really happy about it and I am 23 years old now but I do have all those toys with me and that are very good memories that I have with my aunt giving me that money on my birthdays.

Follow up questions

How did you feel when you received money instead of a physical gift?
I felt really happy and appreciated because it showed that my aunt understood me well. Instead of guessing what I might like, she gave me the freedom to choose for myself. It made me feel special and valued, knowing she trusted my judgment.

Did you ever spend the money on something unexpected?
Yes, there were times when I surprised myself by buying something I didn't initially plan for. One year, I saw a limited edition toy that I didn't think I would like, but once I bought it, it became one of my favorites. It taught me to be open to new things.

Do you think giving money as a gift is better than giving physical items?
I believe it depends on the person. For me, receiving money was great because it allowed me to choose what I truly wanted. However, some people might appreciate a thoughtful physical gift more. It's all about knowing the recipient's preferences.

I got money as a gift from my grandparents on my 16th birthday. Normally also I have gotten money from elders but this time on my 16th birthday it was a little huge sum. That is because I had been performing very well in my academics and they thought of it as a reward that will help me in my future. That money was invested by my parents in stocks and some of it was used for my education for my tuition fee at my coaching and a part of it was also been put for fixed deposit in bank. All this was done by my parents and me too so that it helps me in the future. So the money which was given to me by my grandparents eventually had a big role in my life because now when I have started college I did not have to care a lot about tuition fee being too much because the parents which my grandparents had given and my parents had invested was multiplied, it was doubled and tripled and now I had a lot of it. Therefore I did not have to worry a lot and I think safe investments holds great importance and shows how necessary it is for people to invest money, save money that will help their future.

Follow up questions

Answer

It Ends With Us is a book I read recently. It's by the author Colleen Hoare. It's mainly a story about two teenagers, Atlas and Lily, and how they just handle their life going through high school, adolescence, and just domestic violence at home. Both of them come from very, very different families. However, they have one common determining factor between them, which is domestic violence. The abuse that they've seen their moms go through is just insane, and they connect through that on a different level. They're actually in the same high school, but they never speak to each other until Atlas actually crashes into an empty house next to Lily's villa. When Atlas is homeless and he doesn't have anywhere to go, he just comes and breaks into the house next to Lily's, and Lily helps him with all the daily necessities like clothes and food, medicines and stuff. Furthermore, their friendship blossoms into love, but it doesn't really fructify as Atlas has to leave. This book really gave me a lot of knowledge about domestic abuse and how to deal with it.

Giving money in our nation is a very common practice from the ancient times. Today I am going to talk about the time when I had received money as a gift. When I was in class 6th, I have a 16th birthday of mine. My grandmother gave me the money as a birthday gift to me. It is very special because my grandmother passed away after a few days of my birthday. I used that money as a very gift and I buy a gift for me and chocolates at that time. This money plays an important role in my life because it is such an emotion with that money. Even I have a 50 rupees note present time as a symbol of my grandmother and me. This money is very special for me. I also have received a lot of money from my relatives and my family members. So in each and every festivals we receive some amounts of money in, in token of gift or in token of some rituals. At initial stage I just save them with me and when I get, when the amount is increased around 10,000 or 20,000, after that I buy some valuable items for me like gold earrings or silver earrings which give me so pleasure and happiness. And in India it's so common that a, that a child receive a money as a token of gift because in India it's a culture where we thought like that if we give a money to them they will value the money, they will get some financial education that how to use money, how to collect and save the money and, and how to spend that money wisely. So we went and we did go to a cinema hall to watch movie. Afterwards we had a dinner then we came back. Again we also watched a series because we both are series person. We like to watch Netflix and chill. Then the next day she had to go so we were getting ready to drop her. So she brought everything ready while going out. She hugged me and then she gave me a envelope which had money as a gift. I did say what was needed, it was not needed right? But she said very warmly that you know this is for you, keep it and enjoy. Then she went back. I cannot, really I cannot forget this.

Band 6-7

I would like to talk about my recent experience. During my final year of B.Ed, we got a chance to participate in International Education Fest conducted by Aligarh Muslim University. So as a part of this, we participated as a representative of our college in Aligarh We participated in a lot of programs such as treasure hunt, bus teacher competition, teaching aid competition such as different kinds of activities and games. So we participated in different workshops, we attended many workshops and everything. So after that, we got first prize. We got first prize in treasure hunt. So we got cash prize as a part of appreciation of this program. It was one of the best gift, best time I got money as a gift. So I spend it as my wishes, according to my wishes and I buy some books and spend the money for my child. So it was very happy moment when I spend my own hard work, my own gift. Because the money was received due to my own hard work and competition spirit. So I think it was the best gift I got ever. So if we get money as a gift, we can choose what we can buy and according to our wishes we can buy things. I think it was a better experience when I got money as a gift. So it was a fantastic experience.
