• Key Requirement: You must commit to returning to India for at least two years after your course ends.
• Deadline: Usually closes in early November (for 2026-27, the expected deadline is November 1, 2025).

2. Commonwealth Scholarship and Fellowship Plan (CSFP)

This program is designed for students from Commonwealth countries like India who have the potential to make a "positive impact on the global stage".

• Coverage: Most awards are fully funded, covering tuition, flights, and a living allowance.
• Eligibility: You must hold at least an upper second-class (2:1) honors degree. You must also prove that you cannot afford to study in the UK without this scholarship.

3. GREAT Scholarships India (British Council)

• Eligibility: You must be an Indian passport holder and have an unconditional offer from a participating UK university.

• Research and make a list of your top choices(Step 1): Don't wait until the last minute. Make a list of at least three to five scholarships that are a good fit for your background and course. Visit the official websites of the British Council and the UK universities you are interested in to see what they have to offer Indian students.
• Look at the due dates (Step 2):  Be careful, timing is everything. If you miss a deadline by even one hour, you'll have to wait another year. Most big scholarships for the September intake have application deadlines that fall between March and September.
• Apply to get into college (Step 3): First, a lot of students skip this step. Before you can even apply for funding for many major scholarships, like the GREAT scholarship, you need to get an "offer letter" (either conditional or unconditional) from a UK university.
• Get your papers ready (Step 4): This is where you tell your story. You will need your academic transcripts, a strong Statement of Purpose (SOP) that explains why you deserve the award, and Letters of Recommendation (LORs) from teachers or bosses who know how hard you work.

• Get ready for the interview (Step 6): If you are on the shortlist for a prestigious award like Chevening, you will be asked to come in for an interview. Talk about your leadership skills and how you plan to use what you learn in the UK to help India when you get back.
