In recent years there has been a slow shift toward the adoption of more eco-friendly sources of green energy by some mindful countries who want to contribute to tackling the looming danger of climate change and global warming. However, many countries still continue to rely on fossil fuels as the primary source of energy for meeting all their power needs. The use of cleaner energy sources like wind energy, solar energy and hydropower is definitely a positive development for the world and far outweighs the disadvantages of relying on green and more clean natural sources. Most environmental problems are the direct cause of surging carbon emissions caused by fossil fuels being used as a primary source of energy in most countries. Ozone layer depletion and rising levels of carbon dioxide leading to bad air quality bearing detrimental effects on health are two of the most common cons of using crude oil and petrol. Realising this fact, many countries like Japan and USA have pledged to reduce their carbon emissions and move towards the global goal of net-zero by making the shift and replacing non-renewable energy sources with more sustainable sources. There are, however, some critics who argue that the reliability of solar panels and windmills is very low as compared to the energy generated by fossil fuels. Some countries have come to their senses by pivoting toward green energy for their power needs, but there still continue to be a majority of nations who are still not making an effort towards adopting cleaner energy sources that have been so graciously provided to us by mother nature. While it is clear that the way to a sustainable future is by opting for renewable sources, there are some challenges that can slow down the manifestation of a green future by sparking heated debates over the negatives of going green. The power reliability of renewable sources like wind and solar is relatively low as compared to fossil fuels. Depending heavily on natural factors like rain, wind, and sunlight, the power supply is usually more during some times and close to none during others. So, it becomes more suitable for people who observe fragmented power demand during the day. For instance, schools and other educational institutes can opt for solar energy because they essentially function during the day when the sun shines bright, and the solar panels are producing energy. However, that may not be a good fit for a shopping mall. Moreover, the installation cost of green energy sources is no child’s play and can burn a hole in anyone’s pocket. The large equipment along with the space needed for installing solar panels and windmills are causes of concern for businesses and countries willing to go green.
