  • Northern Illinois University was established in 1895 by Governor John P. Altgeld with its main campus in Dekalb, Illinois. The following are the requirements for international students applying to Northern Illinois University's undergraduate and graduate programmes:

Requirements for Undergraduates

  • Students must have a high school diploma or certificate from a recognised institution.
  • Curriculum in high school:
  • English for four years
  • Mathematics for three years
  • Science for three years
  • Social Studies for three years
  • 2 years of art, music, or a foreign language
  • A 3.0 or higher GPA is necessary.
  • Some programmes may require a SAT or ACT score (an ACT score of 21 or above is required).

English language requirements: Undergraduates from other countries must submit one of the following scores:

  • TOEFL iBT 71 or higher is required.
  • PBT 527 or higher on the TOEFL
  • IELTS Academic 6.0 or higher
  • Grade C in IGCSE/GCSE or GCE O-level

  • Students must have earned a four-year bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university.
  • On a scale of 4.0, students must have a 2.75 GPA or equivalent.
