Eligibility

Students must demonstrate English language competency as an international applicants by passing the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) or the International English Language Testing System with a minimum score (IELTS). 

If students attended an English-medium high school or college/university in your country, students might be eligible to forgo the requirement. To discover if you qualify, fill out the English Proficiency Waiver or contact the Office of International Programs at international-programs@neiu.edu.

If students don't speak English and wish to enroll in the university's Intensive English Program, the School for the Advancement of English Language and Learning (SAELL) at Northeastern Illinois University can help them satisfy the English language competency requirement.

Minimum Graduate Admissions Scores:

Admission Process

Candidates need to apply online on the university's application portal, pay a non-refundable fee of 30 USD, and follow the mentioned requirements for a successful submission:

Accommodation

Northeastern University provides on-campus student housing for local, national, and international students. The Nest, the university's first residence hall, is located west of the main campus. There are two and four-bedroom options available. All of the rooms are well-appointed and have access to a shared bathroom. Other amenities include a fitness centre with strength and cardio machines, a recreation centre with arcade games and billiards, furnished apartments, private bedrooms and bathrooms, and a swimming pool.

Students have access to fully equipped kitchens with appliances, on-site laundry, and essential utilities. While submitting their application, applicants must pay a $50 non-refundable housing application fee and a $250 security deposit. Interested students can also look for off-campus student housing in the United States.

Placements

The Student Center for Science Engagement at NEIU offers mentoring, tutoring, professional development, summer research opportunities, and scientific conferences specifically for science students. Students in the IT and Software department earn an annual salary of approximately 98,000 USD. Bachelor of Science graduates earn about 81,000 USD per year, while BA graduates earn approximately 45,000 USD per year.
