A private university in Hempstead town of New York, Hofstra University was established in 1935 as an extension of New York University (NYU). Formerly known as the Nassau College - Hofstra Memorial of New York University, it became an independent college in 1939 before getting the status of a university in 1963.
The university is Long Island's largest private institution and comprises thirteen schools, namely the College of Liberal Arts, School of Government, School of Education, School of Humanities, School of Natural Sciences and Mathematics, School of Health Professions, School of Nursing, School of Medicines, Honors College, School of Business, School of Engineering, School of Communication and the School of Law. Maintaining a balanced 13:1 student-faculty ratio throughout its courses ensures an engaging and nourishing academic life.
The university offers undergraduate and graduate programs in diverse fields of film studies, sciences, cultural studies, finance and language. The university, situated 25 miles east of New York, has hosted three consecutive US Presidential debates.
