SOP for Law (2025) – Free Sample, Format Guide & Admission Tips

Applying to a top law school abroad is one of the most significant steps in your career. Amidst the flurry of transcripts, LORs, and IELTS/TOEFL scores, one document stands out as your most powerful tool: the Statement of Purpose (SOP) for Law. This isn't just an essay; it's your personal testament, your legal argument for why you deserve a place in their next class.

For Indian students, crafting a compelling law SOP presents a unique challenge. How do you translate your experiences from the Indian education and legal system into a narrative that resonates with an international admissions committee? How do you stand out among thousands of other bright applicants from around the globe?

This comprehensive guide, tailored for 2025 applicants, will demystify the entire process. We will break down the structure, provide actionable tips, share a winning sample, and show you how to avoid common pitfalls.

What is a Statement of Purpose (SOP) for Law and Why Does It Matter?

A Statement of Purpose for Law is a detailed essay you write for the admissions committee of a university you're applying to. It is your opportunity to communicate directly with the decision-makers, telling them who you are, what has shaped your journey, what your ambitions are, and why their specific law program is the perfect catalyst for your future.

Decoding the "Purpose" in Your Statement for Law School

The "purpose" is twofold:

  • Your Purpose: To demonstrate your clear, well-researched motivation for pursuing a specific legal specialization (e.g., LLM in Human Rights, JD with a focus on Tech Law).
  • The University's Purpose: To select candidates who are not only academically capable but also passionate, focused, and likely to contribute positively to the university community and the legal profession at large.

How a Powerful SOP Can Overcome a Lower GPA or Lack of Experience

Your grades reflect your past academic performance, but your SOP reflects your future potential. A brilliantly written SOP can:

  • Provide Context: Explain a dip in grades due to personal challenges or a shift in academic focus.
  • Highlight Transferable Skills: Showcase how non-legal experiences have equipped you with critical thinking, analytical reasoning, and advocacy skills.
  • Demonstrate Maturity and Focus: A clear vision for your career can be more impressive than a perfect but directionless academic record.

SOP for Law Format: Ideal Paragraph Structure Explained

A winning law SOP follows a logical narrative arc. Think of it as constructing a legal argument. Here is a proven 6-paragraph structure that works wonders for Indian applicants.

Paragraph 1: The Hook - Your Personal Story and Motivation

This is your opening statement. It must grab the reader's attention. Avoid clichés like, "From a young age, I have been passionate about justice." Instead, start with a powerful, personal anecdote.

  • Pro-Tip for Indian Students: Think about a specific event that ignited your interest in law. Was it a moot court competition in your college? An internship at a Delhi High Court lawyer's chamber? Reading about a landmark Supreme Court of India judgment? A personal family experience with the legal system?

Paragraph 2: Your Academic and Legal Foundation

This paragraph should connect your academic background to your decision to study law further. Detail your undergraduate studies.

  • For Indian Students: Explicitly mention your degree (e.g., B.A. LLB, B.Com LLB, or a 3-year LLB after another bachelor's degree). Highlight specific subjects like Jurisprudence, Constitutional Law, or Corporate Law that shaped your interest in your chosen specialization. Mention any research papers or dissertations you wrote.

Paragraph 3: Practical Experience - Internships, Moot Courts, and Research

This is where you provide evidence for your passion. Detail your practical exposure.

  • Internships: Don't just list where you interned. Describe what you did. Did you assist in drafting a contract? Did you research case law for a senior advocate? What did you learn from the experience?
  • Moot Courts/Debates: These are excellent examples of your advocacy, research, and public speaking skills. Describe the case problem and your role.
  • Research/Publications: Mention any articles published in college journals or legal blogs.

How to Write an SOP for Law Without Work Experience: This is a common anxiety for fresh graduates. Focus on your academic projects, internships (even short ones), volunteer work with NGOs, and participation in legal aid clinics. Frame them to highlight your skills and proactive nature.

Paragraph 4: Why This University and This Specific Program (LLM/JD)?

This is the most critical paragraph and requires deep research. Generic praise is easily spotted and discarded. You must demonstrate a genuine interest in this specific university.

  • Go beyond the homepage. Name 1-2 professors whose work aligns with your interests.
  • Mention specific course modules, legal clinics (e.g., the Human Rights Clinic), or research centers that you are eager to engage with.
  • Connect their offerings directly to your career goals. For example: "Professor Anjali Sharma's research on cross-border insolvency is directly relevant to my goal of working in international arbitration in India."

Paragraph 5: Your Future Career Goals

Admissions committees want to invest in students with a clear vision. Outline your short-term and long-term goals.

  • Short-Term Goals (1-3 years post-graduation): Be specific. "I aim to work as an associate in the Technology Law practice of a firm like Trilegal or Cyril Amarchand Mangaldas in Mumbai" is much better than "I want to be a corporate lawyer."
  • Long-Term Goals (5-10 years): Where do you see yourself in the long run? Starting your own practice? Working for a UN body? Becoming a policy advisor to the Indian government? Show ambition and a logical career progression.

Paragraph 6: The Conclusion - Your Value Proposition

End on a strong, confident note. Briefly summarize your key strengths and reiterate why you are an excellent fit for the program. State what you will contribute to their student community—perhaps your unique perspective from the Indian legal landscape, your experience in a specific niche, or your leadership skills.

Sample SOP for Law: LLM in Corporate Law for Indian Students

Here is an excerpt from a successful SOP for an LLM in Corporate and Financial Law at a top UK university, written by an Indian B.A. LLB graduate.

"My fascination with the architecture of commerce began not in a classroom, but during my internship with a boutique law firm in Bengaluru, which was advising a tech startup on its Series A funding. I was tasked with the due diligence for the deal, a process that felt like piecing together an intricate puzzle of compliance, risk, and ambition. It was here I witnessed firsthand how robust legal frameworks don't just protect businesses, but actively empower them to innovate and scale. This experience was the crucible that forged my decision to move beyond the generalist curriculum of my B.A. LLB and pursue a specialized master's in Corporate Law. I am particularly drawn to the University of [University Name]'s module on 'Mergers and Acquisitions' and the research being conducted by Professor [Professor's Name] on shareholder activism, which I believe will provide the nuanced understanding required to navigate the complexities of India's rapidly evolving M&A landscape."

Common SOP for Law Mistakes by Indian Students and How to Avoid Them

  • The "Passion for Justice" Cliché: Stating a passion for law without providing concrete examples from your life is meaningless. Show, don't just tell.
  • Generic Flattery: "Your esteemed university is one of the best in the world." They know that. Tell them why it's the best for you.
  • Ignoring the Word Limit: Going over the word limit shows you cannot follow simple instructions—a fatal flaw for a prospective law student.
  • Plagiarism: This is an absolute deal-breaker. Universities use advanced software to detect plagiarism. Your SOP must be 100% original.
  • Grammar and Typos: Your SOP is also a test of your written communication skills. Proofread it multiple times. Read it aloud to catch awkward phrasing.

SOP for PHD in Law

University of the West of England

I am a person who is never afraid to raise voice against injustice and greed. Deep rooted inequality and prejudice prevailing in the society drew my interest towards the field of law. I witnessed how people were treated differently often on the basis of their appearance early in my school days. I realised that our behaviour has been engulfed by some or the other form of discrimination like class, caste, religion, region or race right from our childhood. We are raised to fit into the society rather to question unjust practices followed from generations. One of the reasons I pursued Law in my bachelors was to learn to question and fight for justice and keep up the fundamental belief which states that all people are equivalent in the eyes of law. I consider gaining knowledge about the legal system and its equitable applicability across the country as an achievement to protect people of my nation from injustice. The more I dwelled into the field of law, the more fascinating I find it. To continue to enhance my knowledge and understanding about law, I would like to pursue further studies. I have always been interested in furthering my education in business law and I am highly encouraged by my seniors to pursue post- graduation at a reputed institute. Hands on experience as an advocate has provided skills to critically examine a case from different perspectives and broadened my vision about the applicability of laws. I learnt about the different levels of governing system in place and filed paper work for cases in the appropriate categories almost on every day of my practice. Although most of them include standard documents that required correspondence, through this experience I learned to view cases in the context of the circumstance and legal evaluation. I believe that these skills will definitely serve to strengthen my legal career. I find the field of law both interesting and demanding to acquire up to date knowledge. And I want to keep up with the pace in International Commercial Law field by pursuing a post- graduation degree in it. SOP for Masters in Law

Queen Mary University of London

UK

"The quality of our lives does not depend on whether we have conflicts or not, but on how we react to them." The above adage by --- --- could perfectly be defined as the stepping stone of my exploration of Law. As far back as I can remember, I have always been fascinated with the role of an auditor. Growing up, however, I witnessed my family's personal litigation, which propelled me towards the realms of Law. I became familiar with the fact that Law is the fundamental concept of society. However, it cannot be summarized into one definition as it is not only sensitive to the lawyers and the courtroom but covers the entire gamut of notions that need to be addressed in society. Further, witnessing my family’s case proceeding, I encountered several instances of social failure in my country's judicial system. As I unearthed several aspects of the legal domains, I recognized my desire to emerge as an instrument of change and positively impact society and the lives in it. At this point, with my rising career goals, I wish to advance my understanding of maintaining good relations between businesses and ensuring that trade can continue smoothly, which led me to apply to the venerated --- --- University of London. Upon graduating from high school, I pursued a Bachelor of Commerce, where I received a fruitful knowledge of the various fields such as Finance, Accounts, and Business along with practical exposure to International Business, Commercial Laws, etc. Again, my fascination with the aspects of Law prompted me to pursue a Bachelor of Law (LL.B), from --- College of Law, Bengaluru, during which I gained a wealth of knowledge on the nuances of Law. During my course work, I had the opportunity to acquire practical insights into the field through subjects such as the Law of Torts, Constitutional Law, Criminal Law (Indian Penal Code), Jurisprudence, Contracts Law, Tax Law, Family Law, Public International Law, Law of Property, Labour And Industrial Law, Company Law, etc. In order to gain hands-on experience, I completed several internships in legal firms that built my foundation in the field, and later worked at a leading Advocate's Chamber. A. Law Chambers, as a Legal Associate specializing in civil and commercial Law. Through this experience, I gained a deeper understanding of the use and implementation of Dispute Resolution mechanisms originating from contractual agreements. In addition to familiarizing myself with contract law and arbitration disputes, I conducted extensive research on arbitration agreements, interpreting clauses, and their application by courts. Furthermore, I assisted in extensive research into Arbitration Legislation in India when dealing with an Arbitration dispute involving the Award, its finality, and enforcement. As a result of these experiences, I developed strong problem-solving skills and expertise in several legal verticals. As a curious learner, I explored various other related areas and formulated research that allowed me to recognize the loopholes in the system and how multiple segments of the judiciary are grappling with unresolved cases. Since India is a secular and sensitive country, a strategic and diplomatic perspective is required, which highly aids in dispute resolution. In such complex situations, I believe Alternative Dispute Resolution can provide a substitute for conventional dispute resolution methods. Thus, with its affordable, faster, and safer options, the segment is attracting worldwide attention in the context of litigation. In light of this entire experience, I became passionate about exploring the facets of Comparative International Dispute Resolution and demonstrating a commitment to contentious Law in the public and private sectors. Throughout my career, I have always been able to upgrade my knowledge through new learning opportunities due to my tremendous skill set and innate curiosity. Having built a considerable understanding of the nuances of Finance during my years of extensive education, I still feel the urge to advance my existing understanding of the field and my career prospects. Consequently, I believe the --- --- University of London LL.M program in Comparative International Dispute Resolution will provide me an advanced exposure to the field's requisites and an ideal environment to prepare me for litigation, dispute resolution, mediation, and negotiation, among other areas. Known as the epitome of world-class education and research facilities, The --- --- University of London will provide me with a firm foothold in the nuances of the field. Through the 1-year-long LLM program, I wish to carve a niche for myself in the dispute resolution domain. The core, well-formed, modules on International Commercial Litigation and International Commercial Arbitrations provide students with rich insights and expertise in the field. The opportunity to undertake a dissertation also seems exhilarating to me. By enrolling in the --- C Vis Moot module, I will be encouraged to work on arbitration. Additionally, ---’s Annual Law Careers Fair is a chance to engage with erudite, and like-minded legal professionals. After completing this course, I intend to work in the UK for a while and put my skills into practice by working either for a law firm in-house or a non-governmental organization. In the distant future, I would like to return to my native place and participate in impactful decision-making and dispute- resolution services that can have an impact on people and society to a large extent. As a person with inherent desires, I also wish to take this brave step in order to assist my family with their litigation. Having seen this case develop over the years with twists and turns of failure, I realize that there are many such failures in our justice system that each individual should be able to determine. I am confident that I possess the abilities of a judgmental law executive with a logical and analytical rationale that will aid me in this venture and assist me in fulfilling my dreams. I hope the admission committee reviews my application positively and invites me to be a part of their prestigious network of incoming graduate students for the session.

The purpose of a legal system is to ensure that the associated social structure operates with each member receiving equal rights and opportunities. However, it is evident from the condition of the world today that the law and its practice is far from perfect. Throughout history, there have been countless instances of the powerful displaying injustice and intolerance towards the disenfranchised, all sanctioned by the law of that time. Even though humanity has evolved far beyond the Dark Ages, we are still struggling for a legal framework that guarantees equality. Being someone who believes in egalitarianism and democracy, I too wish to strive towards a better world in the context of my field of interest—corporate law. Decisions made by corporate bodies in today's world have a huge impact on all of society, and it is with a master's degree in Corporate Law that I will be fully prepared to do my bit. My good grades, which are commensurate with my dedication and hard work as a student, have demonstrated my abilities in each subject. After receiving my degree, I began working as an associate for Advocate Mr. --- ---, where I drafted numerous petitions and applications, assisted Mr. --- in his arguments, and also appeared before the Honourable NCLT. Thereafter, while on secondment at DLF Limited, I worked as a consultant for RNS Associates. My job responsibilities involved creating and reviewing a variety of contracts for clients seeking commercial office space, including lease deeds, leave & licence agreements, maintenance agreements, expressions of interest/letters of intent, etc. Additionally, I have assisted the litigation team in cases involving the Insolvency and Bankruptcy Code and the Arbitration & Conciliation Act and drafted case briefs and files for the company's ongoing and new cases. Since childhood, my sole aim is to make the society free from all sorts of inequalities and injustices. I've always been encouraged to contribute to society, and I believe that practising law gives me the opportunity to do so. It would encourage me to think clearly and aid others in developing a stronger sense of fairness. Currently, I want to study towards an LLM in Corporate Law to sharpen my expertise in the field, improve my advocacy and negotiating abilities, and gain a global perspective on the challenges Corporate Law presents. I think that my broad knowledge of the subject and my varied experience would assist me in this journey. The common law system in Britain was created more than 900 years ago. Currently, one-third of the world's population resides in common law or civil law-mixed states. The UK follows a combination of UK and EU law as a member of the EU. One of the main reasons overseas students choose to study European law in the UK is because UK universities are able to provide compelling courses in the subject. Being accepted into a British undergraduate law degree programme would be a dream come true for an international student. As a distinguished member of the illustrious The University of --- is one of the prominent research universities in the UK and a member of the Russell Group of elite universities in the country. I am prepared to provide this university my full knowledge and skill set in terms of both academics and extracurricular activities. I am hoping that my optimistic attitude will benefit both the students and the lecturers. This LLM curriculum includes the economic foundations of trade and corporate law, as well as the structuring and management of international business transactions. Due to the development of new markets, cross-border merger and acquisition activity, and the convergence of trade, finance, and global corporate governance, this course will equip me with the knowledge in Law of Contracts, Company Law, and Business & Accounting. I'm highly ambitious and determined since I'm the first generation of my family to practise law. I have always been interested in finding out more about the social, intellectual, and professional climate that is prevalent in the global context. It will be a coordinated approach that combines many legal specialties. My goal is to become trained and refined in mergers and acquisition in order to pursue a successful career in this industry on an international market. I am willing to become a successful corporate lawyer in future making a huge contribution to the modern corporate law. Consequently, I hope that you would assist me in reaching my future goal and would certainly consider me qualified enough to grant me admission to your prestigious college. With regards, --- ---

If you aren’t aware of the purpose of doing things, you lose the magic of learning! Being a recent law graduate from one of the distinguished law schools, I pondered upon the possibility of expanding my horizons and deepening my knowledge in the sphere that has always called me out. In law I see a purposeful and versatile vocation, yet what I love the most is its dynamic nature and ability to change lives. Ever since, I entered the law school, I was curious and eager to find the area which intrigues and motivates me to become a better professional every day. Luckily, through various experiences I had at the law school, I got to the realisation that International Economic/Commercial Law/Competition Law is something which keeps me grounded and ignites the fire in me to learn, grow and give back. I had immense opportunities to work on the subject and to gain some relevant insights. Consequently, for me it became apparent to choose the concerned subject and to look for courses that align me with my passion. Therefore, the LLM General Law at the University of --- certainty fits my vision and would be a great tool to make me more equipped to deserve my goals. Along the same lines, another thing which had definitely driven me to apply at the university/college is the international exposure that I would get. Growing up, I had always been an introvert and not much interactive as a person. It was not sooner, did I realise the power of communication and the immense opportunity of learning and growth that it holds. As a lawyer, I find it extremely crucial to have social interaction with people across the globe having different background, experiences and learnings. It not only helps to enhance one’s social skills but at the same time opens the mind to diverse point of views. Adding on, the next relevant decision for me was to contemplate the country that I would be choosing to pursue my LLM. Researching the question and applying the knowledge, I gained at the law school, I came to the conclusion that UK would be the ideal choice for me primarily because Indian law has its basis in Common law. The similarity between the legal systems would help me to make a career which is more streamlined and focused towards certain set of laws that I am inclined towards. It will aid me to retain the learnings I have had and also to further enlighten me and make me more informed. Having been decided the Course and the country I wanted to pursue it in. I had to choose the universities which offer the desired course. After a thorough research, it became clear to me that the said course at University of --- college/university is aptly suited to my career goals and the curriculum matches the Knowledge that would empower me in the direction of my goals. I had the chance to connect with some of the notable alumni of the university and the fruitful interaction led to the decision of applying at the esteemed university. Through the communication, I have been given a broad outlook at the life at the university and I find it to be a perfect amalgamation of imparting knowledge, developing the mindset, freedom of being and regularised student life. Furthermore, the ranking of the university is in itself indicative of the atmosphere it provides to the budding lawyers. I firmly believe that a college or university does not define you but the learnings you receive there always does. Therefore, I had a clear outlook in my mind that coming from a developing nation with less resources, I had to direct them towards an institute where maximum utility and efficacy could be achieved. So, applying at the university seemed as an obvious choice. Now, to talk about my career goals and the reason I intend to pursue a masters is that I believe law being a diverse subject, there has to be and should be a specialization/s that makes you more empowered to have a lasting impact. No such impact can be made if a certain depth of knowledge is not there nor it can be made without personality that is bold enough to carry people along. In my opinion, the masters is a way through which both the prospects can be achieved. India being a developing country, I see in it the potential to be amongst world’s leading economies. On the other hand, economy being regulated by law, needs a well-established legal system that governs it, as well as professions that comprehend and apply it well. India’s International trade has been growing multi-folds and the connectivity opens the door for a professional to work at the Global Level. In General law, I see a perfect unification of the legal and theoretical point of view as well as practical and applied prospects of the same. This fulfils both my craving for legal knowledge as well as the desire to apply it in real world situations. To equip myself fully, in my final year of graduation, I enrolled myself into masters in Business laws from the premier law school of the country National Law School of India, ---, which gave me knowledge into certain legal aspects of the economic/business law prevailing in India. Clearly, the next step for me is to get the understanding of the economic law prevailing across the world and the inter connection therein. I intend to become a proficient economic lawyer with expertise towards Competition Law. To make a mention, during my recent internship at the Grant ---, I got the opportunity to work at a project dealing with International trade treaties and their application. I was extremely amazed by the existence of the international treaties and the relevance they hold in the modern world. It arose the curiosity in me to dive into the essence of economic law in terms of role of organisations such as IMF, World Bank, the need & urge to control competition in the market and the relevance to maintain free flow of the market conditions. Hence, to sum up my application for the LLM in the said specialisation is inspired by my interests, vision and thirst for knowledge. I think that the only thing about which one should be concerned in life is to be better and gain excellence in the selected field. My first step towards the same is indeed to enrol myself into a distinguished LLM at the college/university. The next step would be to gain relevant experience in the same. Concluding my of applying at the University of ---, I would like to state a quote which one of my professors told me, ‘As a lawyer, you either learn and grow or be stuck and think you know it all!’

SOP for Masters in Law

Queen Mary University of London

UK

Law has no barriers. It does not discriminate. It’s righteous and understands the human tendency to its’ fullest and this is exactly what I aim to achieve as citizen of the world. Following the path of building bridges and not walls is my core belief and accordingly I completed my Legum Baccalaureus in the year 2022 from Symbiosis Law School, Pune, with a CGPA of 7.51 which is equivalent to 3.20 in UK standards. My academic journey is as versatile as the diversity in my Indian Culture. From scoring 81.7% in my 10 th Class to scoring 74% in my 12 th class with subjects like Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, English and Physical Education, I took a 180 degree turn while perusing Bachelor of Arts in Modern History, Political Science and Sociology with a score sheet of 57% from the University of Lucknow. One may wonder the reason of such rare shift. Here, I’d turn your attention to my voluntary works I’ve been a part of since I didn’t even know the diameter of the globe. From actively participating is social campaigns for Alert India – Leprosy Elimination Programe, Urban Leprosy Control Programe, to working under Caring Souls Foundation to spread mass awareness against AIDS at a nascent age of just 09 years old, I’ve also had an inclination towards the ones ostracized from society. I became a survivor of sexual abuse at a young age of 9, a victim of domestic violence and the societal pressure to prove my own worth during my teens as I had failed my class 11 th . But what could have shattered me into pieces, ignited fire in my soul to fight back and hug my failures with respect and love. Understanding that Science is not the right career call for me, I shifted my focus to Bachelor of Arts where I studied Modern History. It was here where my interest in social sciences reached its peak and I saw the real beauty UK holds in making the Indian Legal System what it is today. From attending lectures on the Sati abolition by Lord --- --- , enactment of Widow Remarriage Act to doing away with female infanticide. I observed a different aspect of British Empire’s rule in India. Correcting the sins committed by our forefathers, our Indian Legal System took a leap in its’ approach. Similarly, I took another leap in my carrier by preparing for 2 years after my completion of BA for UPSC Exams i.e., Union Public Service Commission but unfortunately could not score a position in the Administration of my country. One day a conversation with my late grandfather Major --- --- who always believed in me suggested me to pursue further higher education. I then decided to pursue my career in law. It was his belief in me and my deep-rooted dream to see India standing on a higher pedestal, meeting the International Standards of the world and taking another great leap in International Dispute Resolution Law which is at its’ nascent stage in India that I decided to apply in the Queen Mary University of London for LLM Comparative and International Dispute Resolution. By visiting it’s official website, googling images and understanding the infrastructure and life of International Students, to reading the course module, QS Ranking and my specializations’ career prospect, I understood then and there that your establishment is best suited for my long term and short-term future goals. Furthermore, having had an experience of 5 internships during my course of LLB to completing 1 and a half months of probation under Advocate --- D. --- and Associates, I realized how India still needs a push in the international dispute resolution Law sector. I further intend to practice for around 10 years in the UK, clear my SQE paper, be a part of the Student Union, understand the policy making and politics of the country and then return to India and join politics as a learned Scholar. By participating in various moot court competitions like 6 th Manipal Ranka International Moot Court Competition, 2020 and by being a part of various extra- curricular activities, my personality has seen a dramatic development. Having won 1 st position in Symptoms (2019-2020) , Troubadours, Aura Fest, --- --- College, (2014-2015), writing competition in Book Tractor (2009-2010), Inter House English Debate Competition (2009-2010) to securing 2 nd Runner Up’s position in Juran Award - Case Study Presentation, “16th International Convention On Students’ Quality Control Circles”, (2013-2014), Skit Competition, “16th International Convention On Students’ Quality Control Circles”, (2013-2014) and lastly 2 nd Position in Speech Competition, (2008- 2009), I have learnt to believe in the skills I developed. I am a dedicated resilient, smart, consistent, practical and a far-sighted individual and even though this would be my first experience travelling abroad, I already have a support system of friends in the UK who will help me align myself with the culture and heritage of UK. Helping me make new friends and memories. Certainly, I am going to face challenges but I am prepared to face them with a big smile. I know my country needs me, the world needs me and what better way to contribute together in my journey towards development.

University of East Anglia

UK

As a lawyer and an LLB graduate, I greatly desire to understand corporate laws. The reason is quite simple. As a part of my professional experience, I had to deal with several cases which are related to business. I feel that in order to build a strong case for such business-related lawsuits, it’s important to understand the business domain and its laws in the first place. With that focus in mind, I have made up my mind to pursue an LLM in International Commercial Law & Dispute Resolution (ICLDR). It is designed for students who want to gain an in-depth understanding of business law and dispute resolution. As a lawyer, I feel it’s imperative to understand more about arbitration, corporate law, litigation, mediation, and public international law and acquire negotiation skills. As far as my academics are concerned, I have been a good student throughout. After completing my 10 th and 12 th with good grades, I pursued a B.A. LLB from Lloyd Law College in Meerut. This was a five years law program, and as a part of my undergraduate studies, I undertook several internships. From the period of 2017-20, I have been a part of 19 internship programs. I got the chance to work under the guidance of advocates and senior advocates, which has certainly augmented my knowledge and skills in the field of law. As an intern at the Patna High Court, I worked under Adv. --- --- and Senior Adv. (AOR) --- --- --- & --- ---. Here, I assisted my council in civil cases (like land acquisition and tax law cases) and drafting documents, arbitrary proceedings, and mediation proceedings, and I was also a part of the negotiation. Then, I also interned at MCIArb under Advocate --- --- ---, the Supreme Court of India under Adv. --- --- --- & --- ---. While working at the Supreme Court, I assisted my council in ongoing criminal matters, performed drafting and research, attended arbitrary proceedings, and more. In short, I dealt with various civil, criminal, and commercial cases. These include but are not limited to Alternative Dispute Resolution, family law, property law, consumer protection, insurance law, homicide, defamation, sexual harassment, and bail applications. I have written research papers on various legal and social issues and have also been extensively involved in law and legal matters pertaining to the rights of women and pro bono in general. As a social being, I have contributed my part by working with various national NGOs and organizing camps for the backward class of society and educating them about their legal rights. Having said that, I would like to add that I am the first-gen lawyer in my family, and this 5-years tenure has been challenging yet fulfilling. Now that I have come a long way, I feel I have the capacity to pursue a Master’s program in the aforementioned program. This course will help me learn commercial cross-border transactions and the settlement of disputes through arbitration. I feel through this program, I will be able to expand my legal knowledge and grow my professional network. The immediate reason I chose the United Kingdom is its quality education and lucrative employment opportunities. In fact, the British law system is known all over the world and was developed 900 years ago. Moreover, UK universities are marked by decades of academic excellence, which is evident from its QS World University Rankings. While studying here, one shall be able to acquire hands-on learning and pragmatic knowledge in the field of law. Most law schools in the UK will provide qualifications that are recognized by law schools worldwide. The world’s leading innovations and Nobel Prize winners are mostly from UK universities. Thus, to achieve milestones in life, I wish to seek admission to a UK University. The pragmatic approach to learning and legal-based problem-solving through real disputes are the prime reasons I chose the University of East Anglia. Situated in the United Kingdom, I’ll be able to be a part of the diverse community. The best part about this university is that it allows non-law graduates to pursue this degree. That’s because the modules provide the necessary foundation through its core curriculum. University of East Anglia is known for having a vibrant law community. Furthermore, this university has a solid reputation for providing top- notch vocational training and equipping students with the knowledge and skills required to be a perfect lawyer of the 21 st century. The program offered by University of East Anglia has been designed to provide knowledge of the three main forms of dispute resolution such as adjudication, negotiation, and alternative dispute resolution. The specialty of this course is that it focuses on the contentious aspects of commerce and provides huge insights into substantive and procedural issues in this field. The core modules include Perspectives on Peace, Conflicts and Disputes, where I will be able to understand peaceful relations, dispute prevention, and other concepts of peace, dispute, conflict, and risk. The optional modules will include arbitration, corporate law, mediation, and negotiation topics. Upon completing this program at this university, I would want to see myself as a seasoned lawyer who is capable of delivering fruitful legal advice to my clients who are going through a tough time. I believe that justice delayed is justice denied. Therefore, with the right skills and knowledge, I want to see myself as a judge who can provide timely justice to everyone. Having said that, I request you kindly accept my application and grant me admission to your university. Thanks and regards --- ---
