Slovakia's Government Scholarship for Indian Students Closes May 25, 2026
The Slovak Republic's embassy in New Delhi has announced government scholarships specifically for Indian students to pursue full degree programs at Slovak public universities for the 2026-27 academic year. The portal has been live since March 23, 2026. The deadline is May 25, 2026.
Most Indian students have not heard of this one. Slovakia is a European Union member state, uses the euro, offers near-free tuition at public universities, and sits at the center of Central Europe. A Slovak degree carries the same EU recognition framework as a degree from Germany or France. And the scholarship that funds it comes entirely from the Slovak government.

Currency note: 1 EUR = Rs. 112.36 as of May 20, 2026. Always verify the current rate before making financial decisions.

Why Slovakia Deserves a Place on Your Shortlist
It rarely appears on Indian students' shortlists. Here is why it should.
- EU membership means EU recognition. A degree from a Slovak public university carries EU-level academic recognition under the Bologna Process. This matters when you are job-hunting across Europe after graduation
- Tuition is free or near-free. Slovak public universities charge administrative fees, not tuition. International students are not paying course fees at most institutions. The scholarship stipend is built to cover living costs, not tuition, because tuition is not the main expense
- Living costs are among the lowest in the EU. Monthly student costs in Bratislava run approximately EUR 500 to EUR 700 (Rs.56,180 to Rs.78,652). The EUR 500 monthly stipend covers most of what you need to live comfortably, particularly outside the capital
- EU Blue Card eligibility after graduation opens skilled migration pathways across all EU member states. Slovakia also offers post-study residence permits for graduates who secure employment locally
Fields Covered by the Bilateral Scholarship
The scholarship funds programs within Slovakia's Smart Specialization Strategy. Fields include:
- Natural and technical sciences: Physics, chemistry, biology, materials science
- Engineering and technology: Civil, mechanical, electrical, and computer engineering
- Information technology and computing
- Agriculture and food sciences
- Economics and business
- Selected social sciences and humanities
Not every program at every Slovak university is eligible. Check the confirmed list for the 2026-27 cycle at vladnestipendia.sk/en before you apply.
