Westfield Secondary School is an independent private co-educational institution in Markham, Ontario, Canada. It is the successor to the Eckington County Secondary School established in 1930 in Derbyshire. Subsequently, in the 1940s, its name was changed to Eckington Grammar School, which later became Derbyshire’s first comprehensive school in 1957.
The present-day Westfield School campus opened its doors in the year 2007. The Ministry of Education inspects its programs and grants credit courses towards acquiring an Ontario Secondary School Diploma or OSSD. This institution accommodates numerous classes of various sizes, which combine experiential learning with creative and analytical thinking.
It offers a number of courses in various fields of study, such as International Business, Financial Accounting Principles, Arts, Visual Arts, Business, Marketing, Business Leadership, Mathematics Canadian and World Studies, Civics and Citizenship, and Environment and Resource Management, among others. The Westfield Secondary School campus has a dining hall, a common area with games, and a study area. It also partners up with local communities and fitness centres to provide exercise amenities and sporting events, such as basketball and swimming.
This institution also extends a Principal Recommendation Letter to the students who require post-secondary scholarships. By way of its own Scholarship fund, the school rewards select students who exhibit exceptional academic achievement. Westfield Secondary School also offers featured courses in partnership with Trent’s EAP program with an aim to facilitate a smooth transition between secondary and post-secondary education. It also extends additional support after school hours in its study hall, wherein students are prepared for the compulsory Ontario Secondary School Literacy Test. During this session, instructors also provide homework support.
Furthermore, the institution offers an optional IELTS program on Saturdays, the goal of which is to enhance one’s IELTS score as well as English literacy skills. This school also provides exam preparation, tutoring, and homework support. Students can benefit from its extensive co-curricular programs, progressive curriculum, and supportive residential environment at the Westfield Secondary School.
