You will acquire the skills and competencies required to work successfully with newcomers to Canada as a settlement/intercultural services provider in this two-year diploma program, the first of its type in western Canada. To empower, assist, and advocate for clients, you will look at the historical and contemporary practices of settlement work in Canada.
Active listening, communication, intercultural competency, family dynamics, community development, and human rights are a few subjects in the program's courses. Other topics include culture, gender, sexuality, anti-oppressive behaviors, and reconciliation.
Graduates of the program will be qualified for positions in the non-profit industry, the settlement industry, and other divisions of the local and provincial governments. Graduates may also find employment with organizations collaborating with public libraries and schools.
