University of British Columbia

The University of British Columbia offers a thesis-based program for master’s in Electrical and Computer Engineering. It also comes with an optional, supervised project that can be completed. The minimum requirements for earning a master’s in UBC include a four-year Bachelor’s degree or a Master’s degree with a First Class/Division or an 8 on a scale of 10. The Bachelor’s degree must be in the field of Engineering, Forestry or Medicine. The following tests are acceptable as proof of English proficiency:

For applicants that have an engineering or science degree outside of the ones mentioned, they will be required to take a qualifying year. The minimum grade requirement to apply is a 3.0 GPA on a scale of 4, or a 3.2 GPA on a 4 scale, in the final two full-time academic years of the bachelor’s degree or its equivalent. For applicants who have graduated from an institution where the language of instruction, a proof of English proficiency is required in the form of TOEFL, IELTS, or McGill Certificate of Proficiency in English. Other documents that will be required at the time of application are reference letters, transcripts, and the Area of Research and Applicant Profile form.

University of Alberta

The University of Alberta offers an interdisciplinary course-based program in Electrical and Computer Engineering. The minimum grade requirement to apply for MEng is 3.0 out of 4.0 GPA from the University of Alberta or its equivalent from a recognized institution. The GPA will be considered based on the last 60 graded coursework or the equivalent of the final two years of full-time graded coursework.
