Most top German universities offer summer intake for select MS programs, but you must verify your specific course, not just the university. The table below covers confirmed institutions with known summer tracks.

What is Uni-Assist? Uni-Assist is the centralized application portal used by most public universities in Germany for international students. You submit your documents once, and Uni-Assist forwards the verified file to your chosen universities. The fee is €75 (INR.8,017) for the first application and €30 (INR.3,207) for each additional one [uni-assist.de]. Some universities, including TU Munich for select programs, use their own direct portals instead.

Note: The University of Freiburg's December 15 deadline is earlier than most. If Freiburg is among your options, please consider structuring your entire timeline around that date.

A university may officially offer a summer semester but have only 2 of its 12 programs running in that cycle. What is an APS certificate in Germany? APS in Germany stands for Akademische Prüfstelle, which translates to Academic Evaluation Centre. It is a German government-backed body that verifies the authenticity of academic credentials from Indian institutions. The APS certificate has been mandatory for all Indian applicants since October 2022. Without it, your application file is incomplete, and you cannot obtain a student visa, regardless of your admission status. Applications are submitted by post or courier to the APS office in New Delhi; there is no in-person submission option.

How Much Does Germany Summer Intake Cost?

Germany's public universities charge a semester administration fee, not tuition. This arrangement makes the total cost structure significantly lower than the UK or US, but the blocked account requirement means you need a large sum available upfront before your visa appointment.

What is a blocked account? A blocked account (Sperrkonto in German) is a special bank account that holds a fixed amount of money as proof to the German government that you can support yourself financially during your studies. The funds are released to you in monthly installments once you arrive in Germany. It is not money you lose; it is money you access gradually.

• Shortlisting universities before checking program availability. A university may offer a summer intake while running only two of its 12 programs that cycle. If your target is October-only, redirect to FH universities in the same field, which typically have broader summer offerings and February deadlines.
• Missing the Freiburg December 15 deadline. Most students plan around January 15. University of Freiburg's Renewable Energy and Embedded Systems programs close December 15. If Freiburg is on your list, that date sets your entire timeline, not January 15.
• Leaving blocked account funding for February. Transfers to Expatrio or Fintiba take 10-21 days to clear. Fund in November-December 2026, before your admission letters arrive. If New Delhi visa slots are unavailable (wait times: 8-10 weeks), check consulates in Chennai, Mumbai, and Bengaluru, where availability is typically 2-4 weeks.

1. If you are a final-year BTech student graduating in May 2026 with a CGPA above 7.0 and no active backlogs: Summer 2027 is well-timed for you. Apply for APS immediately in June 2026.
