The University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign is at Illinois USA,  which was founded more than a century ago. In its global university rankings, QS (Top Universities) has ranked UIUC among the top 100 institutions worldwide. However, THE's PG Business and Economics ranking has lowered UIUC's place from 92nd in 2021 to 96th in 2022. In its rankings of MBA programmes and graduate business schools, US News placed UIUC among the top 50 institutions in the country.

In its rankings for engineering and technology, QS and THE placed UIUC in the top 50 institutions. According to US News' rankings for its numerous engineering programmes, UIUC is among the top 10 universities. In its list of universities for civil engineering for 2022, US News has placed UIUC in second place. THE's PG Computers ranking places UIUC among the top 50 institutions. Additionally, since 2018, US News has ranked UIUC among the top schools for computer engineering at the undergraduate and graduate levels.
