The University of Cincinnati is an open research university with more than 100 years of history and is headquartered in Ohio, USA. Cincinnati's placement in the Academic Ranking of World Universities (ARWU, Shanghai Ranking), which emphasises research output and faculty quality, rose from 301–400 in 2017–2019 to 201-300 in 2020 and 2021. Cincinnati's ranking has been steadily declining in QS World University's rankings, which place a strong focus on an institution's reputation in academics, from 551-600 in 2020 to 601-650 in 2021 and 2022. This demonstrates how the university's academic standing has suffered.
