The University of Newcastle is a public university located in New South Wales, Australia. The university was founded in 1965 as Newcastle University. It is well known for pioneering changes in the medical education system in Australia, introducing a problem-based system and the Undergraduate Medical and Health Services Admission Test (UMAT), which has now been adopted across the country. The university has five faculties offering certificate programs as well as undergraduate, graduate and doctoral degrees.
