Work Placements

The university collaborates with businesses and community organisations to provide students with appropriate placements that fulfil their academic goals. Companies then collaborate with students to provide an agreed-upon job experience and proper supervision.

Student work placements are an extended amount of time spent in a host organisation's work environment, working on a structured programme under appropriate workplace supervision. Students work for academic credit and are unpaid to fulfil the requirements of vocational placement.

Student work placements are known by a variety of names depending on the discipline:

  • internships
  • practicums
  • clinical placements

Murdoch University and suitable organisations can enter into a workplace business agreement that sets the terms and conditions of the student work placement. The agreement details the student's insurance coverage under our plans. The terms of the contract are typically set for three years. During this time, there is no responsibility to provide placements.

Students enrol in a qualifying unit and apply for a specific placement to engage in student work placements.

Murdoch University Village is home to a thriving community of over 800 students. The village offers a variety of safe residences and recreational amenities such as a beach volleyball court, pool, study rooms, and a student lounge.
