TOEFL Canada Exam Pattern and Syllabus 2022
The exam is divided into four sections: reading, listening, writing, and speaking. Each unit has a 30 marks weightage forming a total score of 120. Following is the exam pattern breakup for 2022:
- Reading: There will be 30-40 questions in this section. Ideally, you should spend 50-70 minutes on this section.
- Listening: There will be 30-40 questions which should take more than 50 minutes of your time.
- Speaking: The section is relatively simple, with 4 questions requiring 20 minutes at max.
- Writing: The section has only 2 questions but consumes as much as 50 minutes of your test time.
You mustn’t invest a lot of time in any section. The goal must be to get an acceptable cumulative score. Here is the exam syllabus for the best scores:
- Reading Syllabus: The reading section consists of 3-4 paragraph-based sub-section with 10 questions for every passage.

- To increase the accessibility of TOEFL, ETS has resumed the paper-delivered format from December 11, 2021.
- The examination fees have been increased from $185 to $190.
- Accommodating the lack of passport issuing, the ETS has temporarily started accepting Adhaar-Card as valid ID proof.
- On August 21, 2021, ETS launched TOEFL essentials to cater to the limitation of the conventional extended format test.
