All of us have a number of responsibilities concerning the home and the community we live in.Work from home is gaining popularity among people of all ages and backgrounds - from young mothers taking care of their babies to a middle-aged man rendering help to his old,dependent parents - work from home is inevitable. Isn't it a great idea? Sitting in the comfort of your living room in Delhi and working for a corporate firm in the US.In the typical 9 to 5 job scenario, where work becomes nothing but mundane survival, workleading to little to no productivity, work from home plays a major role into ensuring greater motivation and productivity among employeees.However,not always do the benefits outweigh disadvantages. There have been instances where employers have reported rising indiscipline and lack of seriousness concerning work done within the premises of home.For a job that starts at 9 am, individuals start their day as late as 8;45 in the morning, having no time to refresh their minds before a good start. This action as both merits and demerits ; it helps improve work-life balance and the coin has other side too. Both pros and cons will be disscussed further in the essay. Firstly, work from home is more convenient , Flexible . Professional can manage their own schedule and save time by avoiding daily commutes. For example, instead of spending hours in traffic, empolyees can start work earlier or spend more time with their families. This helps improve work-life balance. Another advantage is cost-effectiveness ; both companies and workers save money. For instance, companies on office space, electricity and utilities and employess on transport and meals . However, there are clear drawbacks . Working from home leads to isolation and lack of motivation, as people miss face to face interaction with collegues. This hampers the bonding and communication.Therefor, may affect teamwork and creativity, which often depends on personal communication. In addition, boundry between personal and professional life can blur, making it difficult for some to maintain discipline or work-life balance . For instance, distraction at home, such as household chores or familiy responsiblities may reduce productivity. Work from home, though was not popular as a choice priorly, has seen major advancements and participation in the recent years especially after the Pandemic hit. People have found a way to navigate and adjust around its inconvinience because of which work from home as an option is not frowned upon but is seen as a valued to mode of work. Covid pandemic set a valuable example for this way of work, which was not encouraged even as an experimentation before, making the employer regulate between all the pros and cons of this method. Work from home allows us to attend work which we need not be phycially present for. A few examples could include editorial and clerical work where your work inlcudes a submission of data or is in a digital format. Not only that, even workspaces like an architectural team which require an occasional visit to the site, can have the rest can handled online. Meetings with clients and development of platfroms like Google meet and Zoom create an effective means of exchanging ideas and has aided in the convinience for all user groups of business and work, be it client, employer, employee or even an investor. The drawbacks could include how there might be chances for technical errors and there are always a set of new challenges which were not encountered in a physical workplace. People initially would congregate into a single space as a requirement and would be avaiable at all times during the hours of work. A dratic change in working mode over the time has brought many opportunities to wide range of individuals who are willing to work from their resident , however this trend has rose new challenges for the institutes and companies which will be described further in essay. The trend of working from home was boon to the people in the pandemic when the country have lockeddown to avoid the spread of infection .Because of this trend ,many people were able to earn whilst staying at home which helped them to survive during difficult time. Apart from this , women are very much benefitted with this new trend as they can take care of their kids along with working which was not possible earlier. However, everything comes with some drawbacks .In this case, as individuals were working from home during pandemic ,companies and institutes have faced a great loss.For example,IT company during that period due to inefficient quality of work faced millions of loss as many of their employees could not concentrate well on their work in home because of disturbance.Working from home for some would be very difficult because of lack of connectivity with their co-workers which can effect the target and can delay the work eventually impacting in productivity.Furthermore, as there would be no supervisor to look after the employees , they would not work diligently which can compromise with the quality of work . In this evolving modern day world organisations are coming up a way or another to make their employees working environment better. Work from home is being a popular trend for working professionals to inhibit work these present times as it's being convinent and easier. This essay discusses the positive and negative aspects of this trend. To begin with, Work from home have made employees working environment more stable as they don't have to punch in and out as they have to do before, workers can be at ease and do no have to be tensed. Additionally, it have made the employers to cut-off various overheads like renting office, printing & stationery, paying of internet facilities and electricity charges etc. For instance) A corporate employee's office timing typically begins from 9am to 4pm, well he have to wake up by 7am or before to start his day, shifting to remote working he can start og his shift according to his convinence and do not have to fear his higher authorities, ia client meeting can be set up if the opposite party is out of reach. Furthermore, employers can use up this expenses in other activities. On the other hand, there are at times the workers would not show his level of integrity as being same physically being in office, the employers may have a hard time to track the progress of employees, some employers find distorted ways in completing up the tasks which might later impact the organisation, employers have to provide various amenities to them for instance desktop, internet connection, table chair, etc when it is readily avaliable in the office space. This has especially gained popularity after the covid-19 pandemic which forced companies to switch to this mode of working . It has both its advantages and disadvantages . The most attractive reason to opt for working from home is to save time everyday which would otherwise be spent on commute to the workplace . This time can either be utilised by employees to work more , hobbies , leisure activities or even for much needed sleep . This mode of working is not only beneficial for workers but also for companies as it saves the cost of paying rent for an office . For example , in a costly city like Bangalore , an office would have to spend a huge chunk of money for a good workspace in an appropriate neighbourhood . This money if saved by switching to remote working can be spent on recourse development and even incriments for a happier workforce . However , there are several obstacles in switching to this method of working too . Working in the house confers to several distractions and less supervised work-time . It narrows the bridge between personal and professional life which is essential for a healthy working environment . Further , it also decreases face-to-face interactions with colleagues which is vital for efficient communication and building of a person's professional circle . The reason behind the liking and popularity of work from home is the confort of home specially for working womens. In addition to this, there absolutely zero need to commute, professionals can avoid eating outside, maintaining a healthier lifestyle. Prnofessionals saw leaps and bounds growth in their productivity as work from home saves a lot of time wasted due to travelling in day by day increasing horrific traffic. Many job providers nowadays are hiring people for remote work, as they can access talent all over the world. Remote jobs has gained reach to the untapped skilled population who are passionate about the work but lacking the opportunity. Another reason why recruiters liked this format was because they were saving money on rented office spaces which sky rocketing these days. Work from home not helped professionals getting the work life balance they needed but also it had an impact the environmental conditions such air pollution, noise pollution were deminished during the pandemic period. But there is a downside to this too, firstly work from home model do not fit for all, there are some jobs which require a physical presence of the professionals.
