The full form of CVV is Card Verification Value. It is a security feature that financial organisations include on credit, debit, and ATM cards. It is a three-digit number or a string of three numbers located on the right side of the signature strip on the back of your credit or debit card. Its purpose is to establish the owner’s identity and reduce the risk of internet banking fraud. CVV is also known as CVC (card verification code) or CSC (card security code) (card protection code). American Express (AMEX) cards normally have a four-digit number on the front.
- CVV is not embossed, as is the case with bank card numbers and is not printed on any bills because no one understands it saves the cardholder.
- A credit card company may have its own CVV code name; for example, VISA calls this code CVV2, MasterCard calls it CVC2, and American Express calls it CID.
- The CVV number ID differs from the personal identity number (PIN).
- Never input your PIN if you are prompted to enter your CVV number.
- You use your Pin code to express your card in situations such as shopping at malls or paying hotel expenses.
- Even if you order online or end up completing online transactions such as this one, the CVV number is issued.
