International students in the USA on an F-1 visa can work after graduation through several options:

- Curricular Practical Training (CPT): Allows off-campus work (like internships) during your studies if it's part of your curriculum. You must complete one academic year before starting. Approval is through your university and must be obtained before you begin working.

- Optional Practical Training (OPT): Lets you work in your field of study for up to 12 months after graduation. STEM graduates can extend OPT by 24 months (total 36 months). Apply early, as approval can take several months.

- H-1B Visa: After OPT, you may be eligible for the H-1B work visa if a U.S. employer sponsors you. Approval is subject to an annual cap and a lottery system. The H-1B is employer-specific; changing jobs requires a new petition.

Visa rules and timelines are subject to change. For personalized guidance on your next steps, connect with your LeapScholar counsellor.
