Which courses does the Government of Ireland scholarship cover, and can I use it for an online or part-time programme?
The Government of Ireland International Education Scholarship is not tied to one subject. It can cover full-time Master's, Postgraduate Diploma and PhD programmes at NFQ Level 9 or 10 at eligible Irish institutions. Online and part-time programmes are not covered, while executive and blended formats should be confirmed.
You do not have to pick a particular subject for this scholarship. Master's, Postgraduate Diploma and PhD programmes in many fields can qualify if they meet the NFQ Level 9 or 10 criteria and the other scholarship conditions. Online and part-time programmes are not covered, executive programmes are generally not eligible, and blended courses may qualify, so confirm with the institution.
Programme types that can qualify
| Programme type | NFQ level | Example fields |
|---|---|---|
| Master's | Level 9 | Arts, business, science, engineering, technology, medicine, humanities and social sciences |
| Postgraduate Diploma | Level 9 | Business, science, technology, arts and other eligible disciplines |
| Research Master's | Level 9 | Research-based programmes in eligible fields |
| PhD | Level 10 | Research programmes across academic disciplines |
Study mode and institution
- The programme must be full-time.
- It must be offered by an eligible Irish higher education institution.
- Online and part-time formats fall outside the scholarship, executive formats are generally not eligible, and blended courses may qualify.
My Advice
Before you shortlist a course, confirm its NFQ level, duration, study mode and the institution's eligibility. A course that looks perfect but runs part-time or online will not qualify, so rule those out at the start.
