No, there is no Europe-wide change increasing permanent residency (PR) duration from 4 to 5 years.
- Finland will increase its PR residency requirement from 4 to 6 years (effective January 8, 2026).
- Portugal has raised its citizenship requirement from 5 to 10 years (effective May 19, 2026), but the PR requirement remains at 5 years.
- Other European countries have not adopted a uniform change, and some EU proposals may shorten, not extend, residency requirements, but these are not yet implemented.
