Is it convenient to find a job within the OPT period of six months, or do I have to leave if I don't find one?

It can be challenging to find a job within the OPT (Optional Practical Training) period in the U.S. You are allowed up to 90 days of unemployment during your 12-month OPT. If you don't secure a job within this period, your F-1 status will be terminated and you must leave the U.S. immediately.

Employment must be related to your field of study. The job market is competitive, so starting your search early and applying to employers familiar with OPT can help.

If you approach the unemployment limit without a job, options include transferring to another academic program, changing your visa status, or departing the U.S. Policy details are subject to change.
