How long is the student visa valid for, and what are the post-study work options or job search visa duration?
Your German student residence permit is typically valid for the length of your degree program, usually up to two years at first. You can extend it if your studies take longer, as long as you show satisfactory academic progress.
After graduation, you can apply for an 18-month Job Seeker Visa (post-study work visa/PSW) to look for jobs related to your field. During this time, you may work in any job to support yourself. Once you secure a relevant position, you can switch to a work permit or EU Blue Card.
Visa rules are subject to change.
