The single biggest fork in this decision is not which imaging modality interests you most, it is whether your existing qualification already lets you practise clinically in Ireland. That one fact determines which entire category of master's programme you should even be looking at.

Licensed Radiographer vs Science Graduate: Two Different Paths

Your Starting PointRight ProgrammeWhere
Already licensed or professionally registered radiographerMSc in Medical Imaging, with CT, MRI, or Nuclear Medicine strandsTrinity College Dublin
General science degree, not clinically registered2 year MSc in Diagnostic Radiography, leading to CORU registrationUniversity College Cork, Trinity College Dublin

Why CORU Registration Is the Deciding Factor

  • Radiography is a protected title in Ireland: you cannot legally practise clinically without being registered with CORU, the country's multi profession health regulator.
  • Clinical placements: confirm whether a programme arranges your clinical placement, which is standard for 2 year conversion programmes, or expects you to source your own, which is more common for part time advanced modality courses.

My Advice

If you are unsure whether your current Indian qualification would be recognised as equivalent to an Irish registered radiographer, get that answered before you apply anywhere, since it changes your entire programme shortlist. Graduating with a Level 9 master's typically comes with a 2 year Stamp 1G stay back visa, which is enough time to sit CORU's registration process and secure a hospital role within the HSE or private healthcare networks.
