When do I need to apply for medical examination for my study abroad process in Ireland/Canada?
You will typically need a medical examination if you plan to study in Canada or Ireland for more than six months, or if your course involves work in healthcare, childcare, or education.
- Canada: You can take the medical exam before applying (upfront) or wait for instructions after submitting your application. An upfront exam may speed up processing. Use an IRCC-approved doctor and include the report with your application.
- Ireland: It's best to complete the medical exam before applying for your study visa to avoid delays. Use an approved practitioner and submit the report with your application.
For a September 2025 intake, schedule your medical exam several months in advance to allow for processing times. If you need help booking your exam, contact your LeapScholar counsellor.
