What is the level of the Duolingo English test and can I use it for my study abroad application in UK/Ireland for a Master's?
The Duolingo English Test (DET) measures reading, writing, speaking, and listening skills on a scale from 10 to 160. Scores correspond to international proficiency levels:
- 10 - 55: Beginner to Elementary (A1 - A2)
- 60 - 85: Intermediate (B1)
- 90 - 115: Upper Intermediate (B2)
- 125 - 160: Advanced to Proficient (C1 - C2)
For master's applications abroad, most universities require a DET score of 105 - 110 (B2 level) or higher. Some UK and Ireland universities accept the DET, but policies vary and not all institutions recognize it.
