Is there any alternative if I don't have the required amount in my blocked account to show for Germany?

Yes, there are alternatives to the blocked account (Sperrkonto) for proving financial means when applying for a German student visa.

- Declaration of Commitment (Verpflichtungserklärung): A resident in Germany can provide a legally binding declaration to cover your expenses. This must be arranged through the local Foreigners' Office in Germany.
- Scholarship Certificate: If you have a recognized scholarship covering at least €992/month, the official scholarship letter can be accepted.
- Parental or Personal Bank Statements: Some embassies may accept recent bank statements showing sufficient funds (usually at least €11,904), but this option is less commonly approved and may require extra documentation.

The blocked account remains the most widely accepted method. Acceptance of alternatives varies by embassy and is subject to change. If you need help understanding which option is best for your situation, please contact your LeapScholar counsellor.
