No, the UK does require proof of funds for student visa applicants, similar to New Zealand and Australia.

You must show you have enough money to cover tuition fees and living expenses for up to nine months:
- London: £1,529/month
- Outside London: £1,171/month

For example, for a one-year master's in London with £20,000 tuition, you’d need to show:
- Tuition Fees: £20,000
- Living Expenses: £13,761 (9 months)
- Total: £33,761

Funds must be held for at least 28 consecutive days before your application. Acceptable sources include your own or parental bank accounts, official sponsorship, or approved student loans. Requirements are subject to change.
