Is it possible to get PR after studying in Germany or UK for a Master's?
Yes, you can apply for permanent residency (PR) after studying in both Germany and the UK, but the process and timelines are different.
Germany:
- After your master's, you get an 18-month job search visa.
- Once you secure a qualified job, you can move to a work permit or EU Blue Card.
- PR is typically possible after about 2 years of employment, B1-level German, and pension contributions.
- With an EU Blue Card and language skills, you may qualify for PR in as little as 21 months.
UK:
- After your master's, you receive a Graduate Visa (up to 18 months from 2027).
- This visa does not count toward PR (Indefinite Leave to Remain, ILR).
- To qualify for PR, you must switch to a Skilled Worker Visa and complete 5 years of continuous residence on that visa.
Overall, Germany generally offers a faster and more direct PR pathway after studies compared to the UK.
