Is it possible to apply for a student loan for studying abroad, and what are the requirements regarding guarantors?
Yes, you can apply for a student loan to study abroad. Most lenders require a co-applicant - usually a parent, guardian, or close relative - who shares repayment responsibility and demonstrates financial stability.
- Co-applicant is generally mandatory for larger loans (above ₹7.5 lakh).
- For smaller loans (up to around ₹4 lakh), a third-party guarantor may sometimes be accepted.
- The co-applicant must provide identity proof, income proof, and relationship proof.
- Their financial documents (salary slips, bank statements, income tax returns) are evaluated.
For your visa, you don’t need a guarantor, but you must show proof of funds, which can include your loan sanction letter and co-applicant’s financials.
If you need help with loan or guarantor requirements, your Leap counsellor can guide you through the process.
